Allen's Wife Kicked Out of City Park

Oh my! The Washington Post reports that Susan Allen, wife of G. Felix Allen, and former Virginia first lady was booted over the weekend from:

the City of Alexandria's 257th birthday party at Oronoco Bay Park on Saturday because she was campaigning for her husband, Sen. George Allen (R).

Allen began her standard festival schmooze: "Greet our supporters, then walk through the crowd, introduce myself and ask them to support my husband." Both the GOP and Dems had booths at the annual community bash for 1,000. But when Allen rounded up campaign volunteers for a group photo, a woman believed to be a parks official approached and told them they were not welcome to walk around the party.

Apparently,

The Washington Times first whispered about the encounter yesterday, speculating it could have had something to do with all those Dems living in Alexandria. But Janet Barnett , deputy director of the city's parks department, said she didn't think a city official made the request. "It would be unheard of for any of our staff to ask anyone to leave. It's not who we are or what we're about." Barnett guessed that it might have been an event volunteer, but apologized anyway.

[Mrs.] Allen laughed it off: "George told me long ago to have a thick skin and a sense of humor."

Well obviously she has skin as thick as a rhino by now, I mean look at her taste in men. Talk about self abuse.

Not sure what the reason for booting her from the park, but the parks ranger who did it must certainly have been appalled by something!

What could it be?

Or is this just another fake Republican story (Remember the bug in Karl Rove's office before his weak candidates debate in Texas)?

OK, don't hit me. (phriendlyjaime - 7/11/2006 4:47:17 PM)
But...I don't believe in southern charm

::ducks::

I'm sorry, I'm sorry!  I will admit that Richmond VA is friendlier than Northern NJ where I grew up, and it's definitely friendlier than Cleveland OH where I spent my college days...but the whole Southern charm thing to me is a little bit of a myth.  I have found that up north, if you don't like someone, or you just don't want to deal with them, you at least have the courtesy to let the person know.  Right away.  And...maybe to their face.  And yes, it's rude.  we are known for our good food and bad traffic, not our sweeteness.  But down here, I know damn well that people act all syruppy sweet and nice to my face, and then when I turn around they think of how fun it would be to wring my northern neck.

That's just me and my crazy opinion.

It's not what you asked, but it's what I wrote in response.  :)

hmm... (Kathy Gerber - 7/11/2006 6:57:51 PM)
It's not a religion - just a cultural thing.  And wringing your neck would not be very dignified!

Hey Phriendly (David M - 7/11/2006 7:35:30 PM)
I certainly understand your opinion, but maybe the Southern charm thing was a red herring.

Just trying to actually find out if anyone saw Susan Allen get tossed from this event in Alexandria or if it is just another made up story to make us feel sorry for poor Felix.

Everyone has their opinion and that's why we get paid so much. : )

Ha! You're right about that. :) (phriendlyjaime - 7/11/2006 8:31:00 PM)
I did read a little about this today; apparently she wasn't kicked out, but her presence was not neccessarily appreciated.  She was considered "distracting."
