Democrats Call on Allen to Fire Scott Howell

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is now calling on George Allen to fire his consultant, Scott Howell, creator of the infamous "Hitler Ads" for Jerry Kilgore last year.  For the full statement, click here. Here's an excerpt (bolding added for emphasis):

+óGé¼+ôGeorge Allen+óGé¼Gäós decision to hire a senior adviser whose claims to fame are invoking Adolph Hitler and smearing veterans speaks volumes about George Allen+óGé¼Gäós character,+óGé¼-¥ said DSCC spokesman Karl Frisch.  "George Allen should fire this guy immediately before his campaign takes this race into the gutter."

Democrats said Allen+óGé¼Gäós claims about wanting to run a positive campaign despite hiring the "Hitler ad" consultant, Scott Howell, are bunk. "If Allen really wants to run a +óGé¼-£positive+óGé¼Gäó campaign he should dump this consultant and promise not to attack the patriotism or the military service of Jim Webb in this campaign.+óGé¼-¥

By the way, if you've forgotten the Hitler ad, you can go watch it by clicking here. And if you've forgotten Howell's infamous, race baiting "Black Hands" ad - or never seen it - you can click here and see why the DSCC is calling for Allen to fire Howell.

If he does get fired, he can always talk to a recruiter: (Josh - 7/7/2006 6:06:57 PM)
Apparently, they're recruiting from hate groups now:

hfs!

Good Call (DukieDem - 7/7/2006 6:17:21 PM)
This is a great pre-emptive move by the DSCC. When Scott Howell does strike with his first negative ad, Webb can point to this and say "See, I told you this guy was sleazy. Republicans will stoop to anything to get elected. They are completely lacking in integrity".

The campaign's organization may be a little shaky, but Webb's group and the DSCC are in top notch press mode. They're doing a great job managing the media.

Howell is in the wrong... (Ambivalent Mumblings - 7/7/2006 8:41:04 PM)
Howell is definitely in the wrong for both the actual content and trying to run a negative campaign. I believe that this campaign has a lot of potential to attract a large turn out. If there is indeed a large turn out and the election is close, it has the potential to give Jim Webb even more national attention, which would hopefully attract even more moderate Republicans over to our side.

I believe, however, that if either side decides not to "run a 'positive' campaign," it might disuade voters from going out to the polls. So for the sake of Democrats across the nation, especially Webb and his supporters, let's hope that both sides run a respectable campaign. (We all know Webb will, it's simply up to Allen to actually act like to good ole family man he claims to be.)

COMMENT HIDDEN (I.Publius - 7/8/2006 5:44:17 AM)

Troll (DukieDem - 7/8/2006 11:42:34 AM)
No Webb won't stay positive, but there's a difference between attacking someone's character and attacking someone's record. Did your brain fail to grasp the difference when you said that?

Is I. Publius a troll? (Lowell - 7/8/2006 11:52:59 AM)
Is the Pope Catholic?  Does a bear shit in the woods?  Does the rain in Spain fall mainly on the plain?  By Jove, I think we've got it! :)

So now you're saying (I.Publius - 7/8/2006 2:38:55 PM)
that the Webb campaign won't attack Allen's character.  Are you sure you want to stand by that assertion?

And you're insinuating that Allen (or his campaign) attacked Webb's character.  When?  How about a link.

Speak of insinuating... (Ambivalent Mumblings - 7/17/2006 3:28:03 PM)
....You made a comment earlier this morning that stated "Absolutely lame, but typical of left-wingers like yourself." I feel as though your comment was made in an effort to paint all liberals as simple minded. During a time in which there are many controversial events occuring, I believe that a proper discussion should take place on these issues. That was the point of my original comment.
As far as a link to where Allen attacks Webb, here you go.
“Now that we know that James H. Webb, Jr. is following Kerry, Kennedy and Schumer in opposing the Flag Protection Amendment, maybe he will finally take a position on other ‘real issues’ such as immediate withdrawal from Iraq and immigration,†Wadhams said.  “His positions change daily.â€Â

Would Add (David M - 7/7/2006 10:42:51 PM)
my two cents, but James Boyce does it quite well over at The Huffington Post where he comments on Howell's Record:

Impressive? I call it disgusting. This is the same low-life who got paid to take out Max Cleland, another American hero. Howell didn't stop there. He then went on to become one of the masterminds behind the Swift Boat lies. Howell also did the horrific ad claiming that Tom Kaine wouldn't have supported the death penalty for Adolf Hitler. Now, Howell is putting his boat back in the water with George Allen.

Can read more about Howell over at his firm's website , which boasts:

"First...they were candidates. Then...they were clients. Now...they are Senators."

What they forget to add is: "Soon...they will be indicted."

Obviously Republicans keep reaching for the bottom of the barrel because that is all they have to offer. Sooner or later it catches up to them.

Good point Ambivalent Mumblings... (bladerunner - 7/8/2006 8:58:51 AM)
George Allen and the GOP are great campaigners and you can bet your bottom dollar their moves are calculated. Allen and the GOP benefit from it being a negative campaign like Ambivalent Mumblings said. They know their supporters will show up, their job is to make it such a mess that the unpredictable, moderates from both parties don't show up to the polls cause they can't stand all the ugliness. The GOP is great at suppressing voter turn out. And since we know George has the ability to throw family members threw glass doors and pull his sister up the stairs by the hair we know he's got an ugly streak in him. Hopefully the Webb people will not get suckered into Allen's trap, but also let's hope they answer the negativeness in a quick way, much the way Kaine did when Howell went after him in a Waffen SS way.
