Felix Forces' New Little Sniping Attack

In the July 2 Fredericksburg paper we were treated to a shocking little opinion piece by a Mr. Dennis Lister, vice-chair of the local republican committee, who confessed he was NOT going to support Jim Webb for Senate. And why was that? Because Webb, "despite" his being a war hero, Sec. Navy for Reagan, etc etc, Webb was a DEMOCRAT and would therefore be pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage and wrong on all these and other similar world-shatteringly important "issues." Evidently the Swiftboating backfired bigtime on the G. Felix Allen campaign, and new tactics are in order. Here is my response to Mr. Lister:
On the 2 July 2006 Fredericksburg.com edition Mr. Dennis Lister explained why he will not support James Webb, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate seat from Virginia.

Is it really so surprising that the Vice-Chair of the Republican Committee of Fredericksburg will not support the Democratic nominee?  Of course not, but what I did find a bit odd was some of the rationale he offered thereafter. His tactic appeared to be an attempt to trivialize Mr. Webb+óGé¼Gäós outstanding record of public service by misrepresenting Webb+óGé¼Gäós positions on rather narrowly defined +óGé¼+ôissues.+óGé¼-¥

Jim Webb brings a straight forward philosophy of populism and traditional Jacksonian democracy that emphasizes Fairness for All Americans as opposed to the corrupt cronyism and breathtaking corporate greed implemented by the current crop of Republican leaders, like Mr. Allen.  Mr. Webb supports personal independence and responsibility and opposes interference by a busybody government in our private lives, yet  Mr. Lister chooses to attack this historical American viewpoint by trotting out shopworn stereotypes on abortion and what he terms homosexual marriage.  He warns fellow conservatives that they must not stay home on election day out of distaste for what +óGé¼+ôsome+óGé¼-¥ Republican leaders have done, thus inadvertently admitting that today+óGé¼Gäós  Republicans have indeed betrayed their constituents and the country with their costly mistakes. Mr. Lister wants America to continue on what even he indirectly acknowledges is the wrong path by re-electing Allen, who is part of the problem not part of the solution, having voted at least 95% of the time with that mistaken Republican leadership.

I support Jim Webb for Senate not because of this or that issue, but because he is a man of principle and leadership who can change the terms of debate, get us out of the partisan rut in which we are mired, and help to take America in a new direction.  Wake up, Mr. Lister, turn your back on the tired past and face the future by supporting Mr. Webb.

Great Letter! (Alicia - 7/6/2006 11:36:45 AM)
This is the best:
"I support Jim Webb for Senate not because of this or that issue, but because he is a man of principle and leadership who can change the terms of debate, get us out of the partisan rut in which we are mired, and help to take America in a new direction."
Amen.

Issues (Teddy - 7/6/2006 12:42:57 PM)
There still are even Democrats who fret over their own deeply held special issue, like gun control or, yes, abortion. I have a few deeply held issues myself, but we cannot keep shooting ourselves in the foot over the sanctity of tunnel-vision issues. There is what I call the "larger reality" that cannot be encompassed by questionnaires from special interests which demand 100% conformity of the hapless candidate. The Felix Forces of George Allen represent the stubborn goblins from the past, and we have to move beyond that. Jim Webb is the one candidate who can do that. Yes, Amen.

I have an idea... (thegools - 7/6/2006 3:45:52 PM)
...why don't many of us, who agree with this letter, send it to the same editors with the a smaller letter saying: "I second these comments, and I too support James H. Webb, Jr. for US Senate."

Tell me where you are sending it and when and I will do my best to send it the same day.  I encourage everyone who agrees to do the same.

This is the URL of the page in the Frecericksburg Lance-Star, which on-line is called Fredericksburg.com. That is where I sent my letter.

What I want is for many, many letters to the editors of our media. And phone calls to television and radio stations... Letters from the heretofore silent majority of patriotic Americans who are bewildered by what the Republicans are doing to our country, fed up, angry, and aren't going to take it any more.

Let our voices be heard!
