Webb-Allen race up one spot in latest National Journal Rankings

Last month, when the National Journal did its rankings of the Senate races, Virginia stood at 14 right ahead of Byrd in West Virginia.  Now after Webb's victory in the primary, the ranking stands at 13.

The Democrats need to win 6 races to win back the Senate.  According the National Journal, Webb is the 8th most competitive race.

Here is what the National Journal has to say about the Webb-Allen race to justify moving it up only by one place:

We+óGé¼Gäóre a few more weeks away from truly buying into this race as competitive. It has the potential to become the cycle+óGé¼Gäós most nationalized race, and it has the potential to be the country+óGé¼Gäós most competitive race. The key word here is potential.  Webb gives the Democrats a lot of hope, but until the money begins flowing, this race won't crack the top 10.

One has to wonder whether this is really the case.  Are so many Democrats in trouble?  I mean, are Democrats really going to lose Senate races?  Maryland has an open seat, but it is doubtful that GOP stooge, Michael Steele will win, especially if Erlich is getting his tail kicked in for the Governor's race.  Minnesota is an open seat, where the Democrat has a lead.  Cantwell in Washington State should be able to squeak by, and Ben Nelson in Nebraska seems to be fine, leading his challenger by 20! The Democrats should keep New Jersey in their corner, as Corzine's replacement, Robert Menendez is now favored in the polls.

So, that leaves 7 Republican races.  John Kyl probably will not lose in Arizona.  So what we have is a real barnburner here in Virginia.  It is clear that Webb still has a lot to prove.  We need to be talking up this campaign as much as we can, and raising awareness. We all know that Webb has the tools to win, not just because of who he is, but because we are behind him, and will be with him in this effort every step of the way!
