Painting NOVA Blue

I just finished up with high school, and instead of applying at my local starbucks, I+óGé¼Gäóve decided to do something worthwhile with my summer. What better way than to work a campaign? So yesterday was my first day interning with the Andrew Hurst campaign (for free), and I've gotta say, they really have their act together down there.

After cleaning up the primary against Ken Longmyer, they wasted no time at all putting together a grassroots-oriented campaign centered around voter outreach. (more below the fold)
Andy is an easy sell, too. He has positive ideas which he+óGé¼Gäós ready to see fleshed out to real solutions (head over to www.hurstforcongress.com and check out +óGé¼+ôon the issues.+óGé¼-¥). You can only pass so many regulations, i.e. remove soft money, and people create 527+óGé¼Gäós, and there is nothing wrong with freedom of speech, but sooner or later, you have to put real ethical leaders in congress.  Andy is not running on campaign finance and ethics reform because it polls well, Andy really believes in it, so much so that he is not taking contributions from coperations or special interest money through PAC+óGé¼Gäós.  While this move is literally costing him, Andy would rather run and be an example for what he believes than fold and be a part of the problem.

He was on the John Edwards finance committee in 2004, and he+óGé¼Gäós worked for Greg Werkheiser, Dave Marsden, David Bulova, Earnie Porta, Gerry Hyland and Bruce Roemmelt.  Andy has been knocking on doors since last year, getting ready to take on Tom Davis and his 2 million dollar PR machine. Andy knows that grass-roots is how campaigns are won and lost, and in our day and age the netroots are a vital aspect to grass roots, so I welcome your comments, and hope to continue to bring you more info from Hurst HQ, cause while Tom Davis is taking trips to Italy and enjoying his summer, Team Hurst is going to be building the ladder they will climb in the fall to paint northern Virginia blue after 12 years of neglect.

My friend is working that campaign and he is way fun.  You will have a blast!

I've been volunteering for a few months (Andrea Chamblee - 6/29/2006 10:29:53 PM)
And I know Andy is all you said: organized and tireless; and all Tom Davis is not: committed and principled to a better VA.  Davis is asking for another two years of an aberrant relationship with George Bush, issuing subpeonas for Terri Schiavo, and keeping the Government Reform Committee away from the likes of Tom DeLay and Jack Abramoff.  Oh, and collecting a fat paycheck while he runs for Senate.

We want the Senate AND the House back! (Mookie - 6/30/2006 8:48:57 AM)
Don't forget to support ALL the Dems running, whether you're at a July 4th parade or blogging.

Davis is my congressman (Matt in VA - 6/30/2006 9:09:21 AM)

I've heard Hurst speak (Ambivalent Mumblings - 7/6/2006 7:35:26 PM)
I've heard Hurst speak and he is indeed a fabulous candidate. He was able to questions from the audience in a very calm manner and give detailed answers. I have even heard Republicans state that they believe he would make a great Representative. Why? Because they know that in order for the government to best serve Virginians, it needs to be held to much higher standards than the Republican lead congress has allowed. Andrew Hurst will work to ensure that those standards are put in place.
