According to the latest USA Today/Gallup poll, conducted June 23-25, 2006, the Dems now lead the GOP 54% to 38% as the preferred party of registered voters in this fall's congressional elections.  "This 16-point Democratic advantage ties with a mid-March Gallup survey for the widest Democratic lead in the 2006 elections for Congress since Gallup started measuring voter support last fall. It is slightly greater than the average 12-point lead the Democrats have held across the nine Gallup "generic ballot" measures conducted since the start of the year."

Generic polls suck (Eric - 6/28/2006 11:14:08 AM)
Nothing against you PM, but these polls are bad news.  Let me count the ways...

1. They give Dems a false sense of security.  With a 54-38 lead in the polls many Dems will let down the guard and not work as hard.  After all, with that kind of lead we can't lose.  Right?

2. They motivate the Repubs.  If they think they're going to get crushed they will come out fighting and work hard for every vote.

3. They don't take real candidates into account.  In the NOVA area Wolf and Davis are long standing incumbants who may be in for a fight this year, but I guarantee they aren't behind 16 points.  People are angry at Republicans - but not necessarily their Republican.

I agree (phriendlyjaime - 6/28/2006 12:31:52 PM)
Dems across the country need to run like they are 20 points behind...

I agree with you (PM - 6/28/2006 10:55:09 PM)
but it's better to have this news than the opposite

I'm just an optimistic poll junkie is all
