Why is Allen.senate.gov setting cookies on Raising Kaine

So this is my first diary here on Raising Kaine.  Not new to blogosphere, just a lurker here on VA sites.  I am actually a trusted user over at DailyKos  so don't thing i'm a nut here running around with a tin foil hat but...

I turned on my firefox settings to ask me permission before accepting a cookie.  I shoot over to Raising Kaine, and it asks me if I want to accept a cookie from "allen.senate.gov".
Does anyone here have any idea why that website is setting cookies here, are they tracking users?

So it's not just me... (pitin - 6/19/2006 12:21:54 AM)
Does anyone want to hazzard a guess as to why this could be happening?

Image link is to allen.senate.gov (loboforestal - 6/19/2006 12:40:30 AM)
Yeah, RK hit puts 2 allen.senate.gov cookies on your browser.
Somebody is deeplinking from RK to image on Allen site.  You are accessing allen.senate.gov from RK when you load it.

img is this

There's a setting (Kathy Gerber - 6/19/2006 12:43:28 AM)
If under Tools -> Options -> Cookies you check for the originating site only, it doesn't happen.  I had that on and didn't have an Allen cookie.

Turned it off, cleaned cookies, came here and sure enough had 2 of them.

Thanks for pointing this out.

So the image is (Mark - 6/19/2006 12:44:21 PM)
hotlinked? I thought that was a no-no? Especially if it means George Allen gets anything but the finger from me.

It was, but (Brian - 6/20/2006 1:25:44 PM)
is not any longer.

The picture (Mark - 6/20/2006 1:58:03 PM)
is not independently hosted somewhere (like here). Image properties still show the location as being Allen's Senate website.

Please host it somewhere else or take it down, as I am not interested in being cookied by Gorgeous George. (and I want to continue visiting here.)

I could be mistaken on this, but I don't think so.

The image in question was posted by a user (Lowell - 6/20/2006 2:10:06 PM)
and unless their comment is deleted, there's not much I can do about it.  This is a community site, and people can post images as they wish.  By the way, I still don't understand what the problem with cookies is.  Call me technologically clueless, but they don't bother me.

Well .... (Brian - 6/20/2006 4:23:46 PM)
It was fixed in the original post ... not much we can do about people posting them in comments.

Just don't open the thread with the picture in it and you will not be bothered by it.

sorry (loboforestal - 6/20/2006 4:52:27 PM)
sorry.  I was just duplicating the "error" on the front page which later got fixed.
