Today's Roanoke Times describes the increasingly harsh attacks that Republican Attorney General candidates Bob "Can't Remember if I Had Sodomy" McDonnell and Steve "The People's Lawyer" Baril.  Among other things, McDonnell charges that Baril has "no track record," no grassroots support, and is "desperate."  For his part, Baril questions McDonnell's commitment to gun rights, and blasts McDonnell for his "wrong" and "unethical" representation of clients before the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.  So much for Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment -- "Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican."

Meanwhile, Democratic Attorney General candidate Creigh Deeds, who has no opposition for the nomination, can sit back on  his porch, sip an ice cold lemonade in the hot summer weather, smile, and enjoy the Baril-McDonnell slugfest.  More importantly, Deeds can take notes for future talking points against whichever of the two Republican candidates staggers, blooodied, acrooss the finish line on June 14.

You know, it's not always easy, but some days, it's nice to be a Democrat.  And watching Steve Baril and Bob McDonnell form their little "circular firing squad" certainly qualifies for cheap, early summer entertainment.  Go get 'em, boys!
