Allen Swift Boat Man: Webb War Record "Beyond Reproach"

The Daily Press is reporting that George Allen advisor Christopher LaCivita, "architect of the 2004 Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" that smeared John Kerry's war record, is now saying that "Webb's war record is 'beyond reproach.'"  Well, thank you Mr. LaCivita, we certainly appreciate your vote of approval for Jim Webb.  And we presume that means you won't be using your disgraceful Swift Boat tactics in this campaign.

Just a thought, but could it be that LaCivita and the Allen team have decided not to go after Webb on his war record for two reason?  First, because doing so would be utterly absurd. And second, because they don't want to highlight Allen's own "chickenhawk" status* too much?

*A chickenhawk is defined by Wikipedia as:

...vocal supporters of military action who were perceived to have used family connections or college deferments to avoid serving in previous wars, particularly the Vietnam War. In current usage, the label is used almost exclusively to describe prominent conservative and neoconservative supporters of the Iraq War who have themselves never been in combat.

So, what was diehard Iraq War supporter George Allen doing during Vietnam exactly?  Hmmmm...

What am i missing? From that wikipedia link I'm deducing he was in school during Vietnam. What's wrong with that?

The point is, Allen is a major "hawk" yet (Lowell - 6/14/2006 6:52:47 PM)
like so many other Republicans, never served in the military.  That's why they're all called "chickenhawks."

Well, he could have put off college (LAS - 6/15/2006 1:01:31 AM)
to go serve. I mean, if he believed in it that much.

YOU go fight; I'll stay HERE. It's the Republican way.

Allen is trying hard to distance himself from any mention of war (JennyE - 6/14/2006 6:12:26 PM)
Because he knows he cannot go toe to toe against Webb on national security issues. He'd lose badly. Webb has to tie Allen to Bush and the Iraq war. Hammer it everyday.

Speaking of Iraq and Virginia, does anyone else think it is strange that Shrub Bush's latest Iraq "Operation" shares the same name as Mark Warner's PAC - Forward Together ?

I noticed that too. Very strange. (Lowell - 6/15/2006 7:54:39 AM)

I've got 20 bucks (Josh - 6/15/2006 12:10:43 AM)
For the first person who can tell me how many interceptions George Allen threw on July 10, 1969 (the day Webb earned his Navy Cross).  I know it's offseason, but... c'mon...  He had to have a scrimage or something.

Dodging tacklers, dodging grenades.. (Lowell - 6/15/2006 7:55:39 AM)
...hell, what's the difference anyway?

They would have brought it up, so they could be made fools of.  I'm sure they have something nasty up their sleeve - it's the Republican way.
Though the respectful tone is nice to hear (any odds on how long that will last?)
