...including his comments on the bogus "anti-Semitism" charge.  Classic quotes by Saunders follow.  The interview was done by a woman named Joan at the Yearly Kos conference in Las Vegas last weekend.  Enjoy.

*"[The anti-Semitism story] is just "another example of Harris Miller trying to put a wedge in our Democratic Party...to me, it is unconscionable to use Lee Atwater style wedge politics in our great party here in Virginia...it's unacceptable...."

*"It had nothing to do with Harris Miller's religion...[it was] about his history of outsourcing American jobs" and the "mammoth" damage he's inflicted on rural Virginia.

*For [Miller] to accuse of us of anti-Semitism, I take it personal...and I am offended."

*"I think we will beat the hell out of [Miller] west of 29."

*"My gut feeling is that [Miller] has not gotten any traction" despite all the money he's spent."

*We know how to beat Harris Miller and do grassroots politics in southwest Virginia.  The question is in the liberal, northern areas of the state.

*"In 1980 I voted for Ronald Reagan...now I was DRUNK at the time..."

*"[This primary] is our big litmus test.  Are we going to let the Reagan Democrats come home to what was once a big-tent party, or are we going to nominate Harris Miller and stay a pup tent."

*"I think we will beat the hell out of George Allen."

There's lots more.

I've found the Miller campaign completely offensive as well.  What a shame we have to throw racism, sexism, and anti-Semitism up against the Reagan dDemocrats as they try to come back to the party.

I hope Dems do the right thing today, from what I'm hearing it's closer than I'd expected.  Could go either way.

So much at stake, but it tells you a lot about what needs to change about our litmus test party if we ever want Virginia and National majorities again.

Oh, Mudcat is a badass.

The Proverbial Big Tent (VADem4Ever - 6/13/2006 4:36:21 PM)
Mudcat asks: "Are we going to let the Reagan Democrats come home to what was once a big-tent party...?"

Mudcat, Reagan "Democrats" are welcome in our tent.  But like the proverbial prodigal son coming home, Webb and the Reagan Democrats must first show some respect at the front door and not expect to take over the household the moment they cross the threshhold.

The Reagan Democrats helped the GOP take over the government and ransack our civil liberties and our economy.  They trashed our Democratic house for more than two decades.  Now that things are going south for the Republicans, they want back in.

Welcome back, but this time those that deserted us for Reagan must prove their faithfulness to our Party.

Some of us are afraid that if we falter, you will knock our big tent down and head back from the very dark side you came from.
