If Signs Could Vote.....

Almost 10 PM and the job is finished.

There are 45 precincts in the great city of Newport News. As some might be aware, Newport News is the Chile of cities, that is, it is 24 miles long and no more that 3 or 4 miles wide running up the James River.

From the western boundary of Lee Hall to the water's edge of Reed and Downtown, there are 4 or 5 Webb yard signs at every one of these and every precinct in between, around 200 signs.

With all precincts reporting, the grand total of Miller signs seen.....give it a guess....go ahead.....you might figure it out........You got it. Zip, Nada, Nyet, Zero, Doughnut Hole, Goose Egg...etc. etc. etc. Not enough paid staffers to put a a couple of precinct signs, I guess

Let the real voting begin! We pitched a shutout in the sign war.

Very few Miller signs outside of NoVA (Craig - 6/13/2006 12:22:10 AM)
Once you drive beyond Prince William County, you don't re-encounter Miller signs till you get to inner Charlottesville.  And even in Fairfax County, where Miller is best-known, I'd say the Webb-Miller ratio is about even.

Once again, I'm sorry Mr. Miller, but you just can;t compete statewide.

Chesterfield (Debby - 6/13/2006 4:43:08 AM)
We will have covered the majority of polling places in Chesterfield.  What those working polls don't cover, Charles Goins drove through the night around the county putting signs out at busy places and in  medians leading up to the places. He reports nary a Miller sign either.  Go Webb!

No Miller signs in rural (Mark - 6/13/2006 7:56:35 AM)
Cumberland County, or in the surrounding counties either.

signs (Susan Mariner - 6/13/2006 1:04:20 PM)
Miller signs present in 3 precincts in Virginia Beach.  Webb in all 85.

Great job, Susan! (Kathy Gerber - 6/13/2006 2:00:19 PM)
I can hardly count that high :)

Lots of work to cover all 85 (Susan Mariner - 6/14/2006 2:10:49 PM)
I personally started putting up signs at 4 AM.  Others did the same.  Quite a job.

In today's Daily Press (Newport News Dem - 6/14/2006 1:45:04 PM)
......

"Webb had campaign signs at polling places in Newport News; Miller had none. Signs for neither were in evidence in Hampton,"

We covered all 45!

Kudos to all the dedicated Newport News Webb supporters! (Susan Mariner - 6/14/2006 2:16:29 PM)

Plenty of Miller signs in Richmond (JC - 6/14/2006 2:22:42 PM)
It'll probably take some time to clean up.
