In pouring down rain James Webb stood side by side with about 12 volunteers and distributed over 1000 pieces of literature to the employees of the Newport News Shipyard. this was early this morning between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.. Never did he complain,, in fact he seemed to kind of like greeting the men and women who build the greatest Navy ships in the world. He was welcomed by Alton Glass, president of Local 8888 United Steelworkers, Gene Magruder, Political Action Chair of Local 8888, and Darrell Parker, Rapid Response Chair of Local 8888. The union has not endorsed Webb but was very open to having him at our employee gates. James answered many questions and shook hands with hundreds of potential voters. Despite the rain many voters became aware of the primary tomorrow and James Webb will more than likely be the one who benefits.

As staunchly pro-union as the workers at that shipyard are, they are very much against outsourcing and many are waiting for a Democrat like Jim Webb to come around.

Very good move on Webb's part.

picture? (TurnVirginiaBlue - 6/12/2006 5:10:09 PM)
A picture of this would be great for I'm imaging the scene in my mind.

Great (Corey - 6/12/2006 5:48:23 PM)
Great story Gene ...thanks

Yeah, I like this story too. (loboforestal - 6/12/2006 5:54:45 PM)
Miller's relying on paid staff, self financing, attack ads, playing the race card.

Webb's relying and dedicated volunteers, small donations, taking the high road and working to unite people.

It's good to see some old fashioned factory gate hand shaking.

Note on the USWA re. Rescue American Jobs (Info_Tech_Guy - 6/12/2006 6:03:14 PM)
The USWA has an anti-outsourcing organisation open to non-union members and agressively used this org. to oppose offshore outsourcing and H-1b/L-1 visa worker programs.

I have been involved with RAJ in the past and would like Webb volunteers to be know that the USWA is one of the unions that has taken a strong stand against the loss of AMerican jobs offshore and the replacement of American workers in the USA. Keep this in mind as you work with union members.
