Another Union for Webb

From the Webb campaign comes more evidence that organized labor is overwhelmingly behind Jim Webb's candidacy.  I've also heard privately that if Harris Miller is the nominee, at least some segments of organized labor will oppose him vociferously.  Yet another reason why we need to nominate Jim Webb - to keep the Democratic Party from falling apart.

The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Endorse Jim Webb

Today, the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) endorsed Jim Webb for United States Senate. In addition to BAC, Webb has also received the support of the Laborers+óGé¼Gäó International Union and Sheet Metal Workers International Association.

+óGé¼+ôJim Webb's efforts on behalf of working families have earned him the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers endorsement,+óGé¼-¥ said John J. Flynn, President of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers. +óGé¼+ôHe understands the challenges workers face today, and that you can't have a strong economy without a strong middle class.+óGé¼-¥

BAC is the oldest continuous union in North America. It represents craftworkers across the United States and Canada including bricklayers, stone and marble masons, cement masons, plasterers, and tile setters. BAC has actively fought to improve the quality of life for its members through access to fair wages, good benefits, safe working conditions, and solidarity among members.

+óGé¼+ôThere are few organizations that have done more for hard working Americans than the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers,+óGé¼-¥ said Webb. +óGé¼+ôI+óGé¼Gäóm grateful for their support.+óGé¼-¥

WHY DO WE HAVE TO HAVE A PRIMARY?!?! (phriendlyjaime - 6/8/2006 4:43:49 PM)
I really, really don't like Mr. Miller.  At all.

A reply to me. (phriendlyjaime - 6/8/2006 4:49:22 PM)
Maybe I am just cranky and worn out from my trip.  But, whatever the reason, I am in a foul mood today, and any talk of this campaign and Harris Miller and whining from his staff and 3 supporters is just putting me over the edge.

And I want to tear down Alice Marshall's "blog" if you can even call it that.  I prefer to call it the Miller masturbation manifesto.

I'm self medicating. (phriendlyjaime - 6/8/2006 4:50:08 PM)
with beer and qdoba.  Go me.  :)

Webb on Hardball (va.walter - 6/8/2006 6:07:44 PM)
Do you think there'll be any negative response to Webb saying that he's in favor of Virginia's right to work law?  Probably not since Miller and Allen are too.  Also, I couldn't believe that he was thrown a union softball question and all he said was something about working to strengthen unions.  That was his opportunity to brag about his union support and actually lay out a plan and he missed his chance.  Very disappointing.

Webb on Hardball (martha - 6/8/2006 8:54:59 PM)
Agreed. He should have made a stronger union statement.
I just heard the Voter's League in Lynchburg endorsed Webb. That's good for him here. The African American voters really listen to the Voter's League and their members, including Walter Fore a strong union leader in Lynchburg.

Little negative response (relawson - 6/8/2006 11:11:40 PM)
"Do you think there'll be any negative response to Webb saying that he's in favor of Virginia's right to work law?"

Probably no negative political response considering the other two candidates.  I am hopeful that this becomes a political issue again some day.  Unions simply can't function well in right to work states.

Webb did say that the union movement should be reinvigorated.  Considering his opponent - with no true compassion for unions - I think Webb will get the vast majority of union support.
