One more great endorsement in what will likely turn out to be universal labor support for Jim Webb's candidacy against corporate lobbyist/outsourcer extraordinaire, Harris Miller. Nice.

Laborers+óGé¼Gäó International Union Endorses Jim Webb

LIUNA: It+óGé¼Gäós Clear Who Is on The Side of Working Families in This Primary

Today, the Laborers+óGé¼Gäó International Union of North American endorsed Jim Webb for United States Senate. The announcement of the endorsement was made by Laborers+óGé¼Gäó Mid Atlantic Regional Vice President Dennis Martire.

+óGé¼+ôWhen Virginia working families look at the Senate race, it+óGé¼Gäós clear who is on their side.  That+óGé¼Gäós why today the Laborers have endorsed Jim Webb for the United States Senate,+óGé¼-¥ said Martire.

The Laborers' International Union of North America has eight locals in Virginia and over 550,000 members in the United States and Canada. The union includes workers involved in construction, waste management, stone cutters, lumberjacks, cleaning and domestic staff, and mining.

+óGé¼+ôI+óGé¼Gäóm extraordinarily thankful for the support of the Laborers+óGé¼Gäó Union,+óGé¼-¥ said Webb. +óGé¼+ôIn Virginia and throughout the country, good paying jobs continue to be sent to other countries by greedy international corporations. When I+óGé¼Gäóm Virginia+óGé¼Gäós U.S. Senator, I will become the leader of the anti-outsourcing of American jobs. We should export our products, not our jobs.+óGé¼-¥

Without Labor Harris cannot win. (Josh - 6/1/2006 3:29:04 PM)
There's no point in voting for Harris Miller.  He has alienated the single strongest constituency in Democratic politics.  Miller can not ever be elected, because he's sucker punched the American working class for decades.

Webb will defeat Allen, because he's the better man.

True, these union folks really dislike Miller (Lowell - 6/1/2006 3:32:59 PM)
and they're going to do whatever it takes to defeat him on June 13.

This is ANOTHER great day for Webb! (phriendlyjaime - 6/1/2006 3:34:43 PM)
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Lowell it is dailykos diary time (teacherken - 6/1/2006 3:35:09 PM)
I have been posting comments all day about the various endorsements Jim has garnered today, in each case providing a link back to the raisingkaine story.

But scattered comments on open threads lacks the visibility of a diary.  And I have already used my diary of the day (which managed around 20 recommends and 30 comments before disappearing from view).  Put up a diary that summarizes the three endorsements, provides links to each raisingkaine story, and see what traffic you can generate.

Yes, please! :) (phriendlyjaime - 6/1/2006 3:58:13 PM)

Daily Kos is down right now... (Lowell - 6/1/2006 4:04:49 PM)
I'll post as soon as it comes back up.

??? I have been on constantly w/no problems (teacherken - 6/1/2006 4:10:27 PM)
including just now

btw I made the same suggestion to boboak, who also has diary rights over there.

I cannot get on either- (phriendlyjaime - 6/1/2006 4:12:39 PM)
I hope to comment and recommend before phonebanking tonight though!

Hey, speaking of that...any good ideas on a quick phonebank script that could possibly include McEachin's endorsement and the ones from today as well?

I just posted (Lowell - 6/1/2006 4:16:57 PM)
right here.  Please recommend and comment.  Thanks.

now it is down (teacherken - 6/1/2006 4:39:37 PM)
promise to comment and recommend as soon as I can get to it.

It's on the rec list now (phriendlyjaime - 6/1/2006 4:48:40 PM)
which is great!

But I want some teacherken up in there!  :)

Me too, I want Teacherken (Lowell - 6/1/2006 4:50:12 PM)
Teacherken!  Teacherken! Teacherken! :)

How do you recommend on Daily Kos? (thegools - 6/1/2006 6:47:22 PM)
I see how to recommend individual comments, but not the original post.  Any guidance?

there is a recommend button (teacherken - 6/1/2006 6:56:52 PM)
on the right hand side.  You can recommend diaries when you can post diaries, which is one week after you are registered.

Thanks (thegools - 6/1/2006 7:15:04 PM)
I registered a few days ago so I 'll look out for the change.

I already did my (nonpolitical) diary today (teacherken - 6/1/2006 6:02:41 PM)
You can read it - and still recommend it if you want - here

AWESOME!!!!!! (TurnVirginiaBlue - 6/1/2006 3:48:09 PM)
YIPPIEEEEE!!!!!

I knew labor was going to have to step up the plate...
both Miller and Allen are the worst things going for labor.

Wahoooo!!!!!

4th Quarter. We got a big lead. Don't let up. (loboforestal - 6/1/2006 3:53:06 PM)
The game's not over but Jim can start running the ball: keep on pounding it up the middle. First Down! First Down! Touch Down!

Harris is running out of time to "swift boat" our hero.

Harris may still have some dwindling support amoung high dollar Democrats and a few black legislators.  We'll get 'em on board if not before June 13th, then on the day after. Looks like the old school Roosevelt coalition is coming together.

The Teddy AND Franklin Roosevelt coalition! (Lowell - 6/1/2006 4:06:40 PM)
:)

Is this going to make the big difference? (Dan - 6/1/2006 3:55:49 PM)
As I bite my nails in anxiety over the upcoming primary, I wonder if all these endorsements will mean PEOPLE GO TO THE POLLS.  Does this mean several thousand Union members will go to the polls and vote for Webb, when without this endorsement, many of those voters would stay home or vote for Miller instead?

I hate to say it, but recently it has felt like Webb has a better chance of beating Allen than Miller.  With Miller in the picture, we have TWO campaigns bashing Webb instead of one.  Miller's campaign is seemingly trying to destroy Webb whether he wins the primary or not.

Dan, you are the eternal pessimist (Lowell - 6/1/2006 4:05:59 PM)
Go down to HQ and phone bank for a while. Also, talk to some people who know what's going on with the unions.  I believe that even you will start feeling very optimistic, my friend! :)

If I have time... (Dan - 6/1/2006 4:41:19 PM)
...to phone bank, I will, but for now I am canvassing for Webb twice next week (well, Tuesday is the AYD canvass but if anything has Miller's name on it, I'll just hand out additional Webb flyers).  This Union thing is great.  A win for Webb in the primary could mean several more races in Virgnia become competitive for the Dems.

This is great-- (summercat - 6/1/2006 3:59:55 PM)
and I sure hope that it translates into votes in VA.  I hope more of these endorsers start getting stuff out in the general public for Webb.  And soon--like before the primary.
I guess Miller has a really nasty TV ad up--so where are Harry Reid, et al, to run a retraction?

I will try to say something in regards to unions (PaulVa - 6/1/2006 7:13:59 PM)
I am a former union organizer and member with LIUNA in Virginia.  They have about 8,000 members.  I currently am with the Sheet Metal Workers and we have already endorsed Webb a while ago.

Beginning tomorrow and lasting until election day, we will be canvassing every single union jobsite in at least Northern Virginia with information on Harris and Miller.

Outstanding... (Loudoun County Dem - 6/1/2006 8:41:53 PM)
Great job!!!

RE: Great news . . . (JPTERP - 6/1/2006 7:41:01 PM)
But will this translate into any financial or organizational help (i.e. get out the vote)?  Even if they simply send out a notice to local members saying that they support Jim Webb this will help.

Another puff piece on Harris ... (loboforestal - 6/1/2006 8:09:50 PM)
Another puff piece on Harris : http://home.hamptonroads.com/stories/story.cfm?story=105324&ran=168217&tref=po

Why can't the press report on what Miller spent the last 25 years doing: advocating the placement of our immigration policy in the hands of the wealthiest Americans, destroying Cesar Chavez labor union, and fighting against verifiable paper trails in voting machines.  All of which was funded by Republicans.

He's not a "wonk", he's a lawyer.  He's not hi-tech, he's a K Street.  He's out of touch with America.

umm one thing he's NOT is a lawyer (teacherken - 6/1/2006 9:14:36 PM)
he did graduate work in political science, and has been involved in government and politics in some fashion ever since.

And since Jim Webb is a lawyer, perhaps we don't want to use someone being a lawyer as a negative?

oops (loboforestal - 6/1/2006 9:23:49 PM)
You are right. He was an aide on the U.S. House Judiciary Committee and a legislative director.  He worked as government relations director for Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP, a nationwide law firm specializing in immigration.  I had assumed he was a lawyer.  But he's just a lobbyist.

just remember the danger when you assume (teacherken - 6/1/2006 9:29:15 PM)
that you make an ASS of U and ME  :-)

"lawyer without a license" ? (loboforestal - 6/1/2006 9:41:17 PM)
Can I use that one?
