The former Republican Party Chairman for the state of Kansas, Mark Parkinson, has switched his party affiliation to Democrat.

According to the Johnson County election commissioner, Brian Newby, Parkinson, 48, switched parties without comment.

Apparently he is going to run for Lt. Gov. next year as Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' running mate.

Interesting. I wonder if Parkinson read... (Lowell - 5/31/2006 8:23:03 AM)

Not as surprising as you'd think (Craig - 5/31/2006 10:12:38 AM)
I knew a guy from Kansas, and he says that the state GOP is so bitterly divided between moderates and ultra-conservatives that a lot of the moderates have switched parties.  He says it's the reason that Rep. Dennis Moore (D-KS) got elected back in '98.

The Republicans don't often say so out loud, but their fierce friendship with the moralist far-right has cost them a lot of moderate votes.

On the money assessment... (Delta Mike - 5/31/2006 1:36:49 PM)
... this is also the reason Sebulius was elected.

Oh no doubt (Craig - 5/31/2006 1:56:50 PM)
Shallenberger (sp?) scared off a lot of Kansas' business interests, many of whom split their donations back in 2002.
