Hotline "Future's Market" for Virginia - Rising Stars

The Hotline blog has a feature called the "futures market," an "exclusive look at the up-and-comers in every party in every state."  Today, it came out with Virginia.  Among Democrats, rising stars include:

*State Senator Creigh Deeds ("one of the best fighters we got")

*Del. Brian Moran ("He's definitely going to run statewide or for Congress.")

*Former Del. Chap Petersen (has "a very, very bright future.")

*Freshman Del. David Englin ("Ran an insurgent race against a group of established Dems in Fairfax Co. and beat them all.").  Note that Englin won big-time in Alexandria, while only a few precincts were actually in Fairfax County.  His main opponent, Arlington School Board member Libby Garvey, ran very well in south Arlington.

*State Sen. Mark Herring ("He will move up somewhere."

*Fairfax County Board Chair Gerry Connolly ("could make a strong bid for Rep. Davis' VA 11 seat;" comments Ben?)

Viola Baskerville and Jody Wagner are also listed.  Leslie Byrne is not, which could be a mistake.  Who else do you think should be on this list on the Democratic side?

Check out the entire Virginia "futures market" report here, including Republicans like the "800-lb. gorilla"  named Tom Davis and our old friend "Taliban Bob" McDonnell.

Also the less known or future stars. (David Lang - 5/26/2006 4:02:10 PM)
Lowell (Hopefully running for something)

Kip (One day at the top)

Agreed (The Ditzy Democrats - 5/26/2006 5:25:44 PM)
I'd add Waldo to that list too.

I agree about Kip (Lowell - 5/27/2006 8:20:45 AM)
Personally, all I have to say is this: "if nominated I will not run, if elected I will not serve!"  Ha.

In that case... (The Ditzy Democrats - 5/27/2006 11:01:11 AM)
I'mna DRAFT you!! Just watch me. I have no idea what I'm going to draft you for, Lowell, but you will be drafted for something. Even if it's just "Winner of the Week." :)

11th CD (Ben - 5/26/2006 7:46:32 PM)
How about Leslie instead?  :)

Lots of NOVA (Arlington Mike - 5/26/2006 8:03:53 PM)
Lots of NOVA names mentioned; it'll be interesting to see which ones stay in VA politics and focus toward Richmond, and which ones look towards DC.  I think Creigh Deeds built up a lot of name recognition this past year, and will be able to use that in a push towards statewide office next time around, hopefully with success.  I'd wonder if Peterson makes better sense as an eventual U.S. Rep, rather than heading for an LG/G spot in Richmond.  Part of the question for him will be, what does he do for the next few years, since he's no longer in Richmond and is out of the public eye.  I could see him playing better in a (increasingly blue Fairfax) House race than in a statewide one.  Will be interesting to see how Brian Moran fits into the picture, as well.

It's great to learn about some of the rising stars in the Commonwealth, gives you a good feeling for the future.
