Corporate Lobbyist Elected to US Senate?

The thought makes me wretch.  Former US Senators becoming corporate lobbyists is bad enough.  A corporate lobbyist trying to become a US Senator is unacceptable.  Long-time corporate lobbyist, Harris Miller is running in the Democratic Primary for the 2006 US Senate race in Virginia against former US Navy Secretary and best selling author Jim Webb.  Webb is running to stop the abuse and corruption of corporate lobbyists like Miller.

As president of ITAA, Harris Miller made $50 million dollars outsourcing good paying high-tech American jobs.  Miller isn't just one of many corporate lobbyists selling out America.  ITAA was put together by 400 corporations to Shepard through the legislation; lobby Congress to reduce restrictions and provide training and assistance for every corporation in America to outsource our middle-class and Harris Miller was the president of ITAA and often the keynote speaker of their many outsourcing seminars.

The ultimate goal of this wholesale bloodletting of American jobs is to raise profits in the stock market and reduce wages across the board in America.  Sure, outsourcing makes the US economy and stock market look good because Benedict Arnolds like Harris Miller have done such a great job helping US corporations make a fortune on slave wages overseas.  But American jobs and American families are falling further and further behind.

More after the "flip"
Back in the 1980's the Neocons turned undocumented border crossings into an "administrative fault" in an attempt to break the back of American unions and lower wages across the board in America and it worked.  Since then 12 to 20 million immigrants have been allowed to flood across our border and take American jobs without healthcare or any civil liberties or protections.  You may have noticed that undocumented workers are not charged with a crime or brought to trial.  They are only detained and returned across the border.  The Neocons made it possible so a few greedy Republican campaign contributors can make fortunes off cheap labor and American Unions have less money to help Democratic candidates.

The outsourcing of middle-class, high-tech jobs are just more of the same.  It raises profits for the few and lowers wages across the board in America.  Harris Miller, at the very least has been a pawn of a Neocon agenda to take control of our county but is more likely one of the chief architects.  Beside the fact that Miller has donated money to most of the people who have endorsed him, that many of the people who support him don't even like him and the fact that he donated money to the Republicans who impeached Bill Clinton, there are still so many more reasons why Harris Miller is NOT a Democrat we can trust.  For example, Harris Miller:

+óGé¼-ó Lobbied against voter-verifiable paper trails on behalf of Diebold

"We oppose the idea of a voter-verified paper trail." and "Introducing paper into the mix defeats the improved efficiency and reliability e-voting promises."  -- Harris Miller, president ITAA

+óGé¼-ó Was hired to downplay the risks involved in E-voting and undermine the credibility of the people who criticized it.

+óGé¼-ó Lobbied against making corporate CEOs accountable for their company's tax returns - National Journal's Technology Daily, May 15, 2003

+óGé¼-ó Publicly backed the nomination of John Ashcroft, as Attorney General

+óGé¼+ôAshcroft+óGé¼Gäós nomination is a win-win because he has impeccable legal credentials and a strong grasp of high-tech policy.+óGé¼-¥ (Harris Miller as quoted in Computer Reseller News 1/15/01)

+óGé¼-ó Lobbied to increase the cap on H1B Visas to faciltate oursourcing.

"As a result, our industry strongly believes the cap should be eliminated or increased substantially." (Testimony of Harris Miller 2/25/98)

+óGé¼-ó Praised Bush as a "new leader"..."demonstrating his leadership of the new economy." - The Australian, April 3, 2001

+óGé¼-ó Claims he would reverse the Bush economic plan but supported the Bush tax cuts.  What part would he reverse?

+óGé¼-ó Recently praised making Bush's tax cuts to the ultra-rich permanent.

+óGé¼+ôExtending the tax cuts, yeah I love the idea I think it+óGé¼Gäós a great idea.+óGé¼-¥
(The politics program with Mark Plotkin, WTOP radio, Feb. 17, 2006)

From 1998 to 2004 Harris Miller gave a total of $5500 to 6 Republican candidates.

Spencer Abraham - $2000
Dennis Hastert - $1000
Adam Putnam - $500
Arlen Specter - $1000
John Sununu - $500
Billy Tauzin - $500

Harris Miller is truly one of the worst people in American history.  Globalization may be inevitable but don't make $50 million dollars outsourcing our jobs at a wholesale rate and expect to be my senator.  If Harris Miller were to win the nomination, Republican George Allen won't just beat Miller, the GOP will use Miller as a national disgrace to damage the entire Democratic Party.

In contrast, Jim Webb is growing and expanding the Democratic Party in Virginia and has never donated to a Republican candidate or campaign.  Jim Webb has put his life and reputation on the line and been a leader all of his life.  He will stand up to the abuse and corruption and not cave in to the Neocon pressure and influence which have been destroying our country.  Below is what Jim Webb wrote before the war in Iraq as an attempt to warn us all of exactly what the Neocons are up to.

"The issue before us is not simply whether the United States should end the regime of Saddam Hussein, but whether we as a nation are prepared to physically occupy territory in the Middle East for the next 30 to 50 years. Those who are pushing for a unilateral war in Iraq know full well that there is no exit strategy if we invade and stay. This reality was the genesis of a rift that goes back to the Gulf War itself, when neoconservatives were vocal in their calls for 'a MacArthurian regency in Baghdad.' Their expectation is that the United States would not only change Iraq's regime but also remain as a long-term occupation force in an attempt to reconstruct Iraqi society itself." -- Jim Webb, September 4, 2002, Washington Post

This was a very unpopular position to be taking back in 2002.  We need Senators who are capable of taking unpopular positions, putting themselves at risk and leading our country out of the dangerous and destructive policies brought on by war-profiteers and arrogant fools.  We must constantly guard against those who would sacrifice our young men and women for their own greedy and selfish purpose.  And we must stop the abuse and corruption of corporate lobbyists like Harris Miller.  Plese help us stop this corporate lobbyist from making our government even worse than it already is.  Support Jim Webb and help us elect him as the Virginia Democratic candidate by voting on June 13.  Jim Webb is the only candidate who can take on and beat George "Rubberstamp" Allen and help prevent George "Witless" Bush from blowing up the whole damn planet.

Info needs to be filtered to potential primary voters far and wide.  Direct mail?  What a concept.

COMMENT HIDDEN (Thomas Paine - 5/23/2006 4:05:49 PM)

Well, lets see... (Loudoun County Dem - 5/23/2006 4:14:55 PM)
One has done thousands of hours of pro bono work on behalf of veterans and one built a multi-million dollar fortune by selling out farm workers and middle class IT professionals.

You tell me, Who IS the republican in this race?

Welcome to RK, Thomas Paine! (phriendlyjaime - 5/23/2006 4:24:00 PM)
Thanks for your comments.

We're all set though.  We will proudly work for James Webb and we already have sifted through the rhetoric.  We are proud of our choice.  We are now concentrating on volunteer efforts; are you available anytime?  Thanks!

Ah there it is again (Craig - 5/23/2006 4:25:42 PM)
"He once liked Ronald Reagan, so we can never trust him ever again."

So?  Miller contributed to 5 Republicans, despite the fact that he claims he was a Democrat then.

So Tom, what evidence do you have that Webb doesn't really mean it when he says he's a Democrat?  I know plenty of former Republicans who'd be mighty insulted at that kind of talk.

Don't feed them.... (phriendlyjaime - 5/23/2006 4:26:25 PM)

Sorry, but... (Craig - 5/23/2006 4:31:10 PM)
...I truly hate that "he once liked Reagan" argument.  I knew a guy who sent money to Howard Dean who voted for Dole/Kemp in '96, and was a Republican his whole life till 1998.  It's not how recently you came to the party, it's how much you mean it.  And whiule Webb's conversion may be recent, Miller didn't exactly do everything in his power to elect Democrats.  And he could have.

I agree with you. :) (phriendlyjaime - 5/23/2006 4:37:28 PM)
He's just baiting you though...

Have you seen Madagascar? (Loudoun County Dem - 5/23/2006 4:34:16 PM)
It would seem that the Miller and/or Allen supporters have reached the stage where the on chimpanzee whispers to the other "If you have any poop, fling it now."
