Many Webb Supporters, Few Miller Supporters

Funny?  Sad?  Both?  You decide.

P.S.  This was from last weekend's Neighborhood Day parade in Arlington.

This seems to be a theme at many events :)

Where's Miller... (Josh - 5/20/2006 7:06:34 PM)
's Support?

You may not want to hear this... (msnook - 5/20/2006 7:19:11 PM)
... but Miller may win in the 5th district big time. At the convention today, Webb didn't really inspire anyone, and left early. Miller got up while delegate votes were being counted and answered questions for quite a while. I like Webb for this primary, but Miller sounded great and the crowd loved it. One of the 5th district operatives asked Webb if he planned on coming to Charlottesville (where many of the 5th CDs primary votes will be cast) and he basically just said no.

Except for a short appearance during his kickoff tour, he's writing off the 5th. Someone tell him Charlottesville is 80% Democrat and he needs to at least try to get a few votes here. The self-motivated politicos reading blogs and researching the candidates will probably still vote for Webb, but even in primaries that's not where most of the votes are. Volunteers for the Weed campaign still ask me if Webb is the guy whose books they've read. He should at least make enough of an appearance that he can capitalize on his pre-existing celebrity and his incredible resume.

See, it's sad when people feel the need to make things up (JC - 5/20/2006 9:21:12 PM)
I was there and the 5th was aswarm with Jim's volunteers and staff.  Mudcat was there with Jim, and the two of them were surrounded by peole when they arrived.  The people in the 5th swarmed them and Jim signed several copies of "Born Fighting."

Miller had one staffer there, and honestly I never saw anyone speak to him.  I walked the parking lot with two other Webb volunteers and we counted 10 Webb stickers for every Miller sticker.  There was a steady stream of Webb yard signs being carried out to cars.  I saw one person with a Miller yard sign.

Granted, Miller had more yard signs stuck in the ground, but it's about who takes who's signs home my friend.

What do Miller trolls think they gain by coming on this website and lying about something that is easily disproven?

Well I was there, too. (Kathy Gerber - 5/20/2006 9:44:54 PM)
And, JC, I wish I could have met you. Some of what msnook said is true.  After Jim Webb left to go to another event, Miller did take advantage of the downtime while votes were being counted and people were wandering in and out to get lunches. He was explaining how the government needs to spend money on training and retraining people and getting broadband to the rural areas (Warner has already made progress in this area) so that they can compete for those jobs that are now in India.

I wanted to ask Miller a question, but he wouldn't call on me.  I was interested in learning why he helped put those jobs over in India in the first place. Beyond making himself a multi-millionairre.  He also pretended like he is poor.

By the time Miller was done with his scheduled talk, we were completely burned out, and that's what Webb had to follow.

Webb has already made an appearance in Charlottesville and there was a great turnout.  I agree with msnook, it would be great if he could go there again.

And it would also be a good idea 1) to let folks know why we have to work so hard to get a small portion of those call center jobs back over here in our economically depressed areas and also 2) to explain that Miller will have a particularly difficult time getting anything done since he has burned bridges across the board.

I've heard the same thing (Debby - 5/20/2006 10:01:55 PM)
From a couple of friends who were there, as well as an ardent Webb volunteer, the report is the same as msnook.  Miller got a standing ovation, was more impressive, and Jim Webb left early to go to a bluegrass festival while Harris Miller had the floor to himself to answer questions and speak to voters.

Dude, JC, what are you talking about? (msnook - 5/21/2006 4:15:30 PM)
What did I lie about? How can you call me a Miller troll when I support Jim Webb, and even said so in my comment? Yes, Webb has more volunteers; I'm sure more people wanted his yard signs; I'm sure more sticker-wearers were wearing Webb stickers. None of this is contradictory to what I said.

You're saying that the people who have already made up their minds, or are motivated enough to research and get involved support Jim Webb -- that's exactly what I said. The part I'm guessing you didn't like is the part about all the people who haven't made up their minds, whom Miller is courting far more aggressively than Webb. I'm on your side here, so take a chill pill.

I Think This is Wrong (Mark - 5/21/2006 2:05:28 AM)
No matter whether you agree with msnook or not, or think that he got it wrong, it is NO REASON to troll rate him. He is as deserving of his opinion and 'take' as anyone, and I would hate to see this turn into a place where people are troll rated because someone disagrees with them. msnook is not a troll, he is a committed young Democrat and a great volunteer with the Weed Campaign.

That said, JC is also entitled to his opinion.

Now here's mine; Jim Webb has a lot of catching up to do. Is that a criticism? Yes, a constructive one. And that's not trollish, it's the truth. I, for one, am going to be out there helping him catch up and win this primary.

Tolerance, people. We all need to work together.

Ok... (doctormatt06 - 5/20/2006 7:49:40 PM)
I mean...no offense...but those people came out to work for their guy..no need to put them down just because they didn't have as many people. I don't think its funny OR sad in my opinion...SO BAHH!!!

Not putting down the individuals... (Lowell - 5/20/2006 11:57:54 PM)
I talked to them and they're very nice. I just find it funny that at event after event, Webb supporters outnumber Miller supporters by 5:1 or 10:1 margins.

Ok... (doctormatt06 - 5/21/2006 1:25:43 AM)
just making sure...

Grr alarm deactivated....*powers down*

Webb/Miller at 6th District Convention (martha - 5/21/2006 5:29:20 AM)
I was at the 6th District convention . Webb and Miller both spoke and both left early to attend the 5th District Convention. Most people there supported Webb ( or seemed to).
A friend of mine from Campbell County said Miller was much more impressive at the 5th District than he was at the 5th District dinner in Forest a month ago. He's getting better at speaking.
In the 5th and 6th Districts there has always been the feeling that all politicians blow us off because the area is much more conservative than Northern VA or Tidewater. We are used to it. It's not right but it is what it is.
If Webb wants to make a better impression here he needs to work harder. I support him but there is much work to do.

VA 6 (benawu - 5/21/2006 5:43:46 AM)
Did they endorse a candidate for the 6th?

6th District Candidate (martha - 5/21/2006 9:30:17 AM)
The 6th District Chair, David Layman, insists that an extensive search for a candidate has gone on for years. No one seems to want to run. A plea for building a 'farm team' of potential candidates came from Layman, David Cox and Creigh Deeds. The hope is candidates will emerge from local governments, school boards, city councils etc.
One woman from Amherst stood up and spoke for a potential candidate who will run as an independent and many of us signed a petition for her name to be on the ballot.
Clearly there is the need to unseat Goodlatte but as Layman pointed out he is one of the top 3 most entrenched Congressmen in Washington.
Help!
