Waiting For Rove Indictment? Stand By...

As Peter Daou writes in today+óGé¼Gäós Daou Report, it appears many of us on the internet succumbed to the early hopes of an unconfirmed report by Jason Leopold about Karl Rove being indicted over the weekend.

Daou succinctly lists the various reasons such a story got so much interest on the internet, but so far further investigation into Truthout+óGé¼Gäós report has failed to pan out.

Quotes from Byron York, at the National Review+óGé¼Gäós The Corner, appear to completely refute the underlying facts of Leopold+óGé¼Gäós previous story.

"I talked with Rove defense spokesman Mark Corallo, who told me the story was completely baseless. Part of our conversation: Did Patrick Fitzgerald come to Patton Boggs for 15 hours Friday? No. Did he come to Patton Boggs for any period of time Friday? No. Did he meet anywhere else with Karl Rove's representatives? No. Did he communicate in any way with Karl Rove's representatives? No. Did he inform Rove or Rove's representatives that Rove had been indicted? No."

Of course, the chance that Rove could be indicted soon still remains.

While Daou questions the veracity of Leopold's sources, he tries not to be too hard on his editors at Truthout. Besides the possible inaccuracy of the reporting, Daou's main concern is the potential fallout this could have for blogs and the progressive netroots.

As I myself fell prey to these early hopes, it is only responsible to pass on Peter Daou+óGé¼Gäós thoughtful piece.

Latest Twist
As everyone awaits a final outcome on this story, Truthout+óGé¼Gäós Marc Ash stands firmly behind it.

+óGé¼+ôThe story is accurate,+óGé¼-¥ he writes, +óGé¼+ôand Karl Rove's attorneys have been served with an indictment.+óGé¼-¥

Of course we are all being reminded that Rove+óGé¼Gäós lawyer Robert Luskin and Corallo, who are both denying the story, are paid to lie+óGé¼-ªI mean dissemble for him.

According to Salon+óGé¼Gäós Tim Grieve at War Room, Ash lists three sources who confirmed the story, +óGé¼+ôtwo who are close to Fitzgerald investigation+óGé¼-¥ and a third who has +óGé¼+ôdirect knowledge+óGé¼-¥ of the Friday meeting and subsequent indictment.

And Jason Leopold is still standing by the story with +óGé¼+ôfive sources.+óGé¼-¥

Obviously this story is still in play. Please stand by for future updates.

When Rove is indicted, I swear I will dance a jig sing glory in excelcies!

I am sure (phriendlyjaime - 5/16/2006 2:37:14 PM)
that the GOP is cooking up some fear tactic to time perfectly with the indictment.  And if the MSM had a fricking SPINE, they would be shouting that from the damn rooftops.
