Mark Warner: "Jim Webb is a Great Democrat"

I just got back from the Mark Warner fundraiser for Jim Webb.  I'll have more to say later, but for now, here are the headlines:

*Attendance was 203 people
*Money raised was around $175,000
*In comparison, the Warner event for Harris Miller earlier this year only raised $100,000.
*In his speech, Mark Warner extolled Jim Webb as a man who "served with extraordinary distinction" in "harm's way."
*Warner praised Jim Webb as having "the expertise on national security we need in a post-9/11 world."
*Best of all, Mark Warner lauded Jim Webb as a "great American," a "great Virginian," and a "great Democrat."

As former Warner/current Webb top strategist Steve Jarding told me on the record, Warner "gave his blessing" tonight for Virginia Democrats to vote for Jim Webb.  And on June 13th, something tells me that's exactly what the vast majority of them are going to do.

P.S. Photo of Mark Warner and Steve Jarding on the "flip."  More details and photos to come...probably tomorrow.

The energy (Ingrid - 5/11/2006 10:43:03 PM)
in the room was incredible.  It's a certain force that you only feel around extraordinary people: not just the candidate but the volunteers and supporters around him.  This is something special, people!

Horrendous Ties! (Ben - 5/12/2006 12:05:29 AM)
I'm sorry I couldn't come, I'm still not feeling great, but I have to ask- what's up with the ties?

I have diary on event at dailykos (teacherken - 5/12/2006 12:08:55 AM)
read it here to see why this race is pretty well clear now

and if you are a dkos member, you are allowed to recomment

one other comment (teacherken - 5/12/2006 12:46:01 AM)
there are two people at dailykos who are trying either to promote Miller (Kevin Schmidt from Sterling) or stalk and attack Webb (tip o'neill who is only rarely talks about anything except DADT).

Kevin tried to spin things that it was interesting that Webb had all these out of state endorsements but that Miller had ALL the instate endorsements.  I called him on that, pointing out that recent instate endorsements, since Webb entered the race, heavily favor Jim.  I noted that there were 4 candidates for LT Gov, of which 3 have endorsed Jim and the other (Viola) is staying neutral because of her state job (although it is clear that she favors Jim).  What is interesting in a race for the US Senate is NO current or previous Democratic senator has endorsed Miller and 8 (the 7 this week plus Bob Kerrey) have endorsed Webb.

We need to monitor blogs, LTEs, and the like, and make sure we have a rapid response to the misinformation that seems to be the last resort of the Miller campaign.

On, and we can gainsay their misinformation without having to resort to ad hominems or harsh attacks.

I agree Ken (JC - 5/12/2006 8:08:15 AM)
Let's try and stick to correcting information.  If we must criticize someone, let's make certain it is Mr. Miller and not the person who, misled by disinformation, has stated a preference for Mr. Miller.  Simply correct the record and move on.
