"Enough is Enough"

Oregon Senator Ron Wyden has been filibustering the US Senate since just before 11am today!

This is an ongoing issue, happening right now.  Watch it on C-Span.

The price of oil is currently over $70 per gallon.  Senator Wyden is seeking, when the price of oil is over $50/barrel, an end to the abatement of royalties which Oil Companies should pay for oil they extract from public property.  Senator Wyden was informed that his amendment would not be heard.  He anticipates a savings of $20 Billion to $60 Billion in savings by the end of this giveaway.

"We've got to stop programs that rip-off our children"

"I think that the point has been made...

While they're getting clobbered at the pump, they're spending needlessly billions and billions..
I wish that we could do right.  This is the big one with the most money... this is the one that there is no case for when oil is $70 a barrel..

In deference to my colleagues, while I do not withdraw my amendment, I yeild the floor."

IT'S OVER  I'm amazed that neither cnn, nor msnbc thought to front page this event.  So it goes, I hear they voted somebody off American Idol last night.

Didn't Even Know (Neal2028 - 4/27/2006 2:51:32 PM)
I saw him on TV when I came home at 12:30 and didn't think a thing about it.  Now I'm going to see how long he can go...

This is fun.

GO RON!!! GO !!! (NT) (Josh - 4/27/2006 2:53:26 PM)

Oh what... (phriendlyjaime - 4/27/2006 2:57:13 PM)
I don't get a "thanks for the heads up" for my comment about this?  Party of unity my ass....  ;)

Thanks for the heads up! (JC - 4/27/2006 2:59:42 PM)
Thanks for the heads up!

WOOO-HOOO! (phriendlyjaime - 4/27/2006 3:08:46 PM)
Thanks, man!!!!  :)

Thank you (Josh - 4/27/2006 3:08:57 PM)
It took me a while to throw this up.  Was going to tip my hat.

You know, you can always write these kinds of diaries if you want. ;)

I know... (phriendlyjaime - 4/27/2006 3:10:04 PM)
and really, I was teasing you, but you know that.  I saw it at probably the same time as you did...can't wait for the inevitable replay of this tonight or tomorrow.  GO DEMS!!!!

I want to see more of this! (Josh - 4/27/2006 3:13:29 PM)
Dems need to take it to them...

This Congress is out of control.  We have to take it back.

I Think It's Winding Down (Josh - 4/27/2006 3:15:42 PM)
There won't be a vote.

Jinx (DukieDem - 4/27/2006 3:17:25 PM)
I turned it on just as he yielded to Reid for a question. I think I jinxed him.

Something inspiring to watch on the span... (phriendlyjaime - 4/27/2006 3:20:15 PM)
is the thirtysomething dems.  they have a website, google em.  they show up almost every night, speak to almost no one in an empty room, and have literally scared the shit out of me about numerous issues.  well, not really literally, but you get it.  ;)

I hear you (Josh - 4/27/2006 3:30:57 PM)
I've watched some of those sessions.  It's awesome to see them working, then I think:  these guys should go out and raise some more money, and the staggering wieght of our failed electoral system suddenly crashes down on me.

I'm not surprised. (phriendlyjaime - 4/27/2006 4:25:25 PM)

They are too busy tugging at American's heartstrings every time a halfway attractive white girl goes missing or runs away.

There's an attractive white girl missing?!? (Lowell - 4/27/2006 5:56:11 PM)
Where, where, now I'm wide awake! :)

Wyden is one of my favorites (msnook - 4/27/2006 5:31:32 PM)
He fills a different niche than Feingold, but he's on par in terms of leadership and guts. Anyone seen his Fair Flat Tax Act? Now that's a tax plan!
