Allen Spy

Pictures of today's Webb event in Arlington wouldn't be complete without a photo of George Allen's spy - actually, a nice guy (I talked to him for a few minutes), whose job is to follow Webb around and videotape his every move. Is this a bit creepy, or is it standard operating procedure for politics these days?  Also, do you think Allen is doing this for Harris Miller as well?  I bet he isn't!

Pretty standard political procedure (DanG - 4/26/2006 8:18:47 PM)
I'm not surprised.  I would be more surprised if Allen didn't send anybody.  In that case he'd either be:

A) Really confident
B) Really stupid
C) A Cowboy who wishes he was born in Iowa but was born in California
D) All of the above

Yeah, this guy was really cool (Josh - 4/26/2006 8:56:51 PM)
I won't name him, but his name is one of those unforgettable names you could only believe if you knew it was true.

Unforgettable.

Hunter Pickles? (thegools - 4/27/2006 10:27:59 PM)
Is it Hunter Pickles?

I do the same thing (Greg Bouchillon - 4/26/2006 9:05:11 PM)
I follow Josh and make sure he's doing his damn research paper.

Allen's spy may be a nice guy but the Allen lie machine isn't (Info_Tech_Guy - 4/26/2006 9:09:54 PM)
Everything Jim Webb says will be taped, edited and used to misrepresent his positions.

Where is the decency in electoral races? (thegools - 4/26/2006 9:20:12 PM)
Oh yeah I think it is an old and dying horse.

Intimidation (hdaman - 4/26/2006 9:22:04 PM)
Intimidation has become a powerful tool in politics today

Wouldn't it be funny... (Dan - 4/26/2006 9:33:30 PM)
if somehow, something Webb said actually turned this kid into a convert?  I mean, when he goes back and hears Allen's bullshit, perhaps he might think to himself - geez, this Webb guy isn't so bad.  Of course, then he drinks the kool-aid and he returns to his brainwashed self.

Allen Videotaping Webb? (Rick O'Dell - 4/26/2006 9:33:43 PM)
Brilliance, sheer brilliance I tell you!  Without disrupting his presidential primary travels, Cowboy George has found a way to stay in touch with what's going on in Virginia! We should be honored by his electronic presence.

Lets Make an Issue out of this (Kip - 4/26/2006 10:00:02 PM)
I moved from Springfield, IL two years ago when a little known candidate for US Senate, Barack Obama, was subjected to the exact same treatment from his rival Jack Ryan. Only with Ryan immediately there was an outcry from the state press. The Chicago Tribune decided to investigate Ryan's own background and low behold they found the holy grail of investigative reporting: a sex scandal. Ryan had to withdrawal from the race.

Therefore, lets make sure the media knows what type of campaign Allen is running. However it should not take much digging to discover Allen is incompetent and bored with his job.

Let's hope (KCinDC - 4/26/2006 11:07:38 PM)
Is this "nice guy" at least staying at a reason distance and not trying to follow Webb into the bathroom? If so, he's a big improvement on the annoying shadow Obama was plagued with.

Vultures (thegools - 4/27/2006 10:36:20 PM)
Maybe someone with more time than I should trail the vultures to document their non-sense.

2005 Delegates Race (PM - 4/27/2006 8:31:41 AM)
In the Craddock-Caputo Va. 67th race last year, a Craddock minion taped a Chuck Caputo speech, and then (in)artfully edited it to make it seem as if Caputo was a supporter of big government and tax increases.  It was put on a Craddock campaign website.  So that's one thing to be aware of.

We should all (Adam Malle - 4/27/2006 9:05:56 AM)
E-mail Alan's campaign and request copies of the footage since he was so kind to send someone to cover webbs events. We wouldn't want recordings of a future senators speeches to be lost in history.

Good for the Goose, Good for the Gander (Bubby - 4/27/2006 9:58:56 AM)
What a great idea George Allen.  You pay for video of the considered and organized statements of Jim Webb and me and my volunteers will video your Dumb-As-A-Post gibberish and we will compare game film.

Great idea Bubby! (Eric - 4/27/2006 10:10:03 AM)
For those aspiring cinematographers out there: If you can get video of George Allen's "gibberish", we will find a way to make it available through the Raising Kaine site (with  edits to improve viewability, of course).

Feel free to take a page out of the Allen playbook and make appearances at his events with video camera in hand.

George Washington Rips one in public!!! (thegools - 4/27/2006 10:34:18 PM)
This is why when Webb was first considering running for office, I begged people to have patience with him.  We were asking him to throw away his very private life and wade into this non-sense, effectively ridding his life of any privacy.  Thanks to people like Hunter Pickles and others who trail candidates day and night, our elected officials no longer get to live as normal human beings.

I wonder if George Washington ever got to fart without someone catching it on tape.  Oh that's right....Yes he did.

Um, nice guy? (phriendlyjaime - 4/27/2006 10:15:09 AM)
Maybe so, but he was a first class jerk at shad planking, and I have already decided that if I see myself or Thadd in ANY footage EVER used by Allen for public use or in a commercial, I will wage a war with them, bc I never signed anything stating that I wold allow myself to be videtaped or have my likeness used to support Allen in any way.
