Webb Delivers Powerful Speech to 250 in Arlington

I'll have more on Jim Webb's powerful speech from his appearance today in Arlington. But first, here are a few pictures.  I can confidently report that the crowd was around 200-250 people (although Arlington County Commissioner of the Revenue Ingrid Morroy and Arlington County Treasurer Frank O'Leary estimate 300).  You decide!

I can also report that Webb gave a kickass, crowd-pleasing, intensely populist speech in which he made clear that: 1) politics as usual in Washington needs to end; 2) regular people, not rich lobbyists, need to come first; 3) outsourcing of American jobs is bad and must be stopped; 4) the big oil companies need to be slapped with a windfall profits tax, and 5) the war in Iraq - which he opposed since 2002 - must end as soon as possible.  More later.  For now, here are some pics (more on the flip side).  Enjoy.

That's just really impressive. (Susan Mariner - 4/26/2006 6:24:08 PM)
Since people have gotten to know Jim better up there, I'm not surprised by the enthusiasm for his campaign.  It really is the case that the more people see him and they better they know him and what he's about, the more they believe that he IS the candidate that will fight for the kind of change we need in this country.  Webb will be a fantastic senator!

Treasurer Frank O'Leary (Ingrid - 4/26/2006 6:48:18 PM)
and I count for a living.  We counted 302 heads.  That's our story and we're gonna stick to it!

Crowds counting (thegools - 4/26/2006 10:14:10 PM)
I have done quite a bit of counting of crowds etc.  I find that people routinely underestimate actual crowd size especially outdoors.
Outdoor events always seem to make big crowds appear smaller in number.

To make a moderate crowd seem big, stuff them in a small room not outside. 302 people though does well outside but still looks like 200-250 unless someone actually counts.

Treasurer, thanks for counting.

Lets take bets (DanG - 4/26/2006 6:50:54 PM)
Anybody think Miller will ever get 250 people to show up at a rally for him without paying the crowd first?

Got beer? (Bubby - 4/26/2006 7:18:14 PM)
I'll listen to him if he gives me a free beer.  No wait, I want a 12 pack.  How long do I have to stay?

Shhh, don't give him ideas! (DanG - 4/26/2006 7:29:21 PM)

Shiller Miller (Accuracy_IT - 4/27/2006 9:57:53 AM)
When you get to know Harris Miller and his role in the the destruction of American jobs you'd think no one could possibly vote for him.  Don't be fooled.

Shiller Miller is a MASTER of propaganda.  He's out there talking about jobs in America.  It's complete BS but Miller is counting on the willingness of Americans to be fat, lazy, and stupid.  He's counting on Americans being willing to accept being told whoever to vote for.  And he has good reason to count on that.  Just look at how Karl (Mr. Propaganda) Rove has sold bush (AKA the Crawford Texas Village Idiot).

Feeble minded bush was elected governor of Texas - by Rove and his propaganda machine.  Look at how the Rove Propaganda Machine attacked John McCain's patriotism in 2000.  And the Rove Propaganda Machine struck again in 2004 by attacking John Kerry's patriotism.  Both were Vietnam vets, both decorated, and both patriots doing what georgie bush wouldn't do.  What the Rove Propaganda Machine proved is that American are willing to be told what to think.

The question is: are Virginians willing to accept a variation of the Rove Propaganda Machine?  Because that's how Shiller Miller operates - on the principal that if you tell a lie often enough people will believe it.

Later I will post some Harris Miller quotes for you personal entertainment and education.  Make no mistake about this: Shiller Miller is one of the great liars of the 21st century and MUST be stopped just for that reason.

looks great (TurnVirginiaBlue - 4/26/2006 7:04:58 PM)
Glad to see Webb speaking out on outsourcing.  I have no doubt that Miller wants to offshore outsource DoD contractor jobs..which would surely affect Virginia negatively, never mind that ITAA/NASSCOM are so busy peddling their outsourcing business agenda, they pay zero attention to national security.

It's one thing to have your identity stolen, it's another to have critical infrastructure in technology stolen or even worse, sabotaged.

The Leader of the Anti-Outsourcing Movement (Josh - 4/26/2006 7:40:38 PM)
Webb claimed that mantle in his speech today, and was rewarded with massive applause!  Let's reward him more with volunteer help and $$.  It'd be nice to be a rich lobbyist like Miller or to have a $100 Billion industry footing the bill for everything you do (like George Allen) - All Jim Webb has is regular folks.

Win for Jim!

What a beautiful sight to see :) (Kathy Gerber - 4/26/2006 7:36:24 PM)

I hoped for this sort of national leader in 2004... (Info_Tech_Guy - 4/26/2006 8:41:42 PM)
I finally found it in Jim Webb in 2006!

Today. (Kathy Gerber - 4/26/2006 9:20:37 PM)
Today I was supposed to type "Enterprise Guide."  Well, I typed "Enterprise Guy."  I know your not an Enterprise Guy, but it's still all your fault :)  My boss brought a copy around, and said, "um... you really don't want this for a heading, do you?"

Then someone else said that it must be a Freudian slip.  So I had to try to explain that I know someone on line named info_tech_guy.  Sure, right.

Anyway, I feel the same way.  And you can tell that the people in the pix feel that way, too.

Very Impresssive (rjl - 4/26/2006 9:38:39 PM)
Congratulations to Jim Webb and his team!

Jim Webb He's a Winner against George Allen (seamusotoole - 4/26/2006 9:50:48 PM)
Attended Webb's event today in Arlington.  What an impressive crowd.  His speech which I understand he wrote
himself was from the heart.  Nice to hear someone who represents the average American and their concerns.  While more and more jobs get outsourced and Americans lose their
jobs and health insurance, James Webb will fight back for all of us.  As a Vietnam veteran, who saw war firsthand,
he knows Iraq is another major mistake and saw it coming.
Let's get behind him and defeat Allen.  This is the time and
place; let's do it.
