No Democratic candidate/convention in the 4th CD

No Democratic candidate met last Friday's filing deadline for the 4th CD call to Democratic convention and last night the call to convention was officially cancelled.

The VA-4th is now of one of only a handful of districts nationwide that will not put forth a Democratic candidate.  The unofficial count of candidate filings has the Democrats fielding 416 candidates out of the 435 House races.  This is a record for the Dems and three short of the 419 candidates the Republicans fielded in their record setting election year of 1994.  Many filing deadlines in other states have not passed yet so there is still hope to break the 419 record.

Follow the candidate count on Barry Welsh's 50 State Strategy page.

The 4th CD Committee can nominate someone themselves until June 13th at 7 p.m.

4th District Committee (Debby - 4/26/2006 1:36:15 PM)
As a member of that committee, I can tell you that no one will be nominated to run as a Democrat against Randy Forbes.  That is, unless a miracle candidate suddenly appears, out of the blue, and states he/she wants to run, has the money to make a race of it, and can show they are half way credible.  Otherwise, we will remain one of the only places in the state not to run a challenger.

How many seats (Adam Malle - 4/26/2006 10:46:08 AM)
Are the Republicans challenging?
