CNN Poll: Bush at 32% Approval; People Freaking about Gas Prices

CNN is out with a new poll that is nothing but bad news for Bush and the Republicans.  First, the headline:  Bush has hit an all-time low point of his presidency, with only 32% of Americans approving of the job he's doing and 60% disapproving.

My only question is this: who on earth are these 32% who actually approve of massive budget deficits, cronyism, corruption, incompetence, the totally FUBAR war in Iraq, spying on Americans, disregard for the U.S. Constitution, Abu Ghraib, lying over and over to the American people, doing nothing to get us off our "oil addiction" (Bush's words), etc?  Earth to 32%, what are you guys THINKING?

Oh, and speaking of our "oil addiction," about which Bush and the Republican Congress have done absolutely nothing: well, 69% of Americans say that $3 per gallon gasoline is causing them "financial hardship."  And a whopping 91% (!!) are very or somewhat worried about oil prices soaring even higher, which appears likely given our confrontation with Iran.  You think there's any connection between Americans' distress and anxiety over oil prices and the low popularity ratings of Bush and the Republicnas?  Hmmmm....

Finally, the CNN poll indicates that, if elections for Congress were held today, Democrats would hold a 10-point lead over Republicans (50%-40%).  This is a hefty lead, no doubt, but down from the 16-point Democratic lead as of March 10-12.  Seems to me that voters aren't particularly happy with either party at this point.

And on that note, I'll put in my plug for Jim Webb (you knew THAT was coming, right?). Ha.  Seriously, though, voters are obviously saying that they are not satisfied with how things are going right now, and that they want leaders who are not part and parcel of this screwed up, corrupt system.  Tomorrow, Jim Webb launches his "Operation: Take Back Virginia" tour.  Let's be clear who Webb is taking Virgina back FROM;  1) the Republicans; 2) the special interests; and 3) the party insiders - Democrat or Republican - who care more about preserving their own power and privileges than about ordinary Americans like you and me.

Go Webb!

Keep in mind... (Laura86 - 4/25/2006 8:30:00 AM)
Cheney still has an approval rating of approx. 18%-those are the die hards that will support this administration even if Bush goes and starts WWIII.

Actually, if Bush start WWIII my guess is... (Lowell - 4/25/2006 8:37:30 AM)
that his popularity will go UP among Republicans.  Unfortunately, this may not be a hypothetical situation, given the situation in Iran.

Indeed... (Laura86 - 4/25/2006 9:20:35 AM)
The situation in Iran is absolutely terrifying, I don't understand why so few people seem to be reacting to it...maybe because there isn't enough awareness of what's going on and the implications?  The apathy these days is stunning.

Maybe people really ARE stunned? (Lowell - 4/25/2006 10:14:58 AM)
Or maybe they're just terrified? Or both?

Most people are afraid (Greg Bouchillon - 4/25/2006 8:59:35 AM)
that if they disagree with Cheney, he'll shoot them.

This 32% has to be the right wing nutjobs. Lets do the math:

Whole Country - democrats - independants - people with an iq above 60 = 68%.

Hardcore Bible Belt + People that think Falwell and Robertson are going to lead them to heaven + S.D. State house + people who don't own a radio, television, and can't read the newspapers = 32%.

From Jon Stewart on the Daily Show (Loudoun County Dem - 4/25/2006 12:35:43 PM)
Dick Cheney's approval rating is 18%. That means he is less popular with over 80% of the American public than he is with the man he SHOT IN THE FACE!!!

You forgot (Eric - 4/25/2006 9:29:23 AM)
about Bush's stellar preformance during the nature induced relocation program for the indigenous people of New Orleans last year.  Clearly the 32% see that those people, desite having lived in N.O. for generations, were wrong in believing that a swamp is a good place to live.  Therefore, Bush's handling of the situation, which resulted in better living conditions for a large segment of the N.O. population, shows strong leadership.

Do they get hurricanes in the heartland?  I'm sure they'd appreciate Bush's performance even more if they did.

BWAHAHAHAHA! (phriendlyjaime - 4/25/2006 1:55:03 PM)
Most people are afraid  (0.00 / 0)
