After a weekend of rain, the sun is breaking out in parts of Virginia. Have you dried out from over the weekend?

Tell us about that or anything else in this open thread.

Allen's Approval & the Senate Race (uva08 - 4/23/2006 4:07:26 PM)
With all the hype about Webb's credentials I think I forgot how hard it will be to knock Allen off.  Webb (or Miller) will have his work cut of for him.  I hope Webb can repeat Kaine's success in the NOVA exurbs and expand in Tidewater.  I have the feeling that Western VA (excluding the Charlottesville-Albemarle area) will fall solidly in Allen's column.
With that said I find a recent poll by SurveyUSA to be very interesting.  Apparently Allen is below the 50% mark with an approval of only 49%.  Even Warner is dropping.  His approval is 59%.  Virginia certainly is changing but will 2006 be the year of the realignment?

Worst President (David Lang - 4/23/2006 4:18:36 PM)
Here is an article about why Bush is the worst president.

Also, Kip found this article not me, so he gets the credit.

STAND FOR SOMETHING! (Josh - 4/23/2006 5:23:57 PM)
This is what I've been fighting for for years!

Dear god!  Please, Democrats please listen.

Progressives need to fight for what they believe in -- and put the common good at the center of a new progressive vision -- as an essential strategy for political growth and majority building. This is no longer a wishful sentiment by out-of-power activists, but a political and electoral imperative for all concerned progressives.

Amen! (Vivian J. Paige - 4/23/2006 5:50:37 PM)
Dead on, Josh.

2nd Amen (uva08 - 4/23/2006 6:39:44 PM)
It's hard to passionate and emotional in support of the Democratic Party if you don't have principles and ideals to do so.  Progressives and Democrats do stand for things that they need to speak out about.
Americans DO believe that children should be able to go to college without worrying too much about money.  Americans DO believe in equality in opportunity meaning our schools need to be properly equipped and funded.  Americans DO believe in free speech and freedom of the press.  Americans DO NOT think health care should be run like a business and that ones salary should determine the quality of treatment they receive.  Americans DO NOT believe that the world is black and white; instead they believe there are nuances and gray areas.  The "with us or against us" "good vs. evil" talk should be thrown out and recognized for what it was, emotional talk in the wake of a national tragedy.  While we will never fully recover for the emotional blows we were hit with on 9/11 we do need to learn from the past and move on to a brighter future.  Americans DO believe in freedom and democracy in the world, but as one of my favorite bumper stickers say "If you want peace then work for justice."  The US needs to reengage itself in the Middle East and recognize the problems in a regional context.  We need to revive talks with Israel and Arab leaders, making sure we are even handed by supporting a Palestinian homeland while promoting acceptance of Israel.  This will show the Arabs that we aren't out to get them, but are working for a common good, thus disarming Bin Laden of his most potent recruitment tool: anti American sentiment and perhaps even garning some much needed support in the Iraq effort.  Americans DO believe we should secure our boarders and make sure those who wish to be in the US go about living here in a legal way.  In other words, we cannot allow people to evade US immigration laws; this would be a smack in the face to all those immigrants in the past, present, and future who went through the long and difficult process of becoming an American citizen the right way.  Most importantly Americans DO believe in substance.  The war of words has got to end.  It's time that we all realize that each side has something to offer and that this hostile atmosphere surrounding Democrats and Republicans must erode or our country will forever be a nation divided.

That's my Sunday rant.

Bravo! (Josh - 4/23/2006 8:13:36 PM)
I may never stop applauding...

Or standing up for Progressive Values.

Glad I'm not alone.

Coyotes (PM - 4/23/2006 7:01:23 PM)
Thanks to my daughter's alert eyes, we saw a coyote wandering through our Fairfax County back yard this morning, holding a rabbit in its mouth.  Healthy looking animal, kind of cool to see.

Being gardeners, we're hoping the coyote keeps the rabbits and deer away.
