Bad Week for Harris Miller

This was a bad week for Harris Miller, no question about it.  On Tuesday, Miller kicked off his "Working for Change" (nickels, dimes and quarters, apparently) tour in front of pitiful crowds in NOVA and in Richmond.  J.C. Wilmore's account of the Richmond event is brilliant, hilarious, and scathing.  What a fiasco.

As if this wasn't bad enough, there was the Shad Planking on Wednesday, at which Miller got...well...PLANKED!  Or is it PUNK'D?!?  Ha.  Seriously, though, can we say 8,000 Webb signs to 2 Miller signs?  Ee gads, why did Miller even show up at all?  How embarassing.

Finally, we have this article by Bob Gibson in the Daily Progress - "Board to hear complaint against Miller."  Here's the story, which we first reported on April 6:

Fairfax County Democrat Harris Miller+óGé¼Gäós U.S. Senate campaign learned Friday that it is the subject of a complaint filed against Miller to be heard Wednesday by the State Board of Elections.

The complaint is about telephone calls made in Northern Virginia under the guise of being a poll by someone falsely identifying the organization sponsoring the survey.

The complaint was filed by a Fairfax County woman, Theresa M. Hartnett of Burke, who complained that Miller violated state law requiring that campaigns conducting a survey correctly identify themselves.

Wow.  Can things get any worse for Harris Miller? To paraphrase the John Lennon song: "nobody told Miller there'd be weeks like these...strange weeks indeed!"

P.S.  Yes they CAN get worse.  See the animated gif file above produced by the IT Professionals Association of America.

Why the attack add? (thegools - 4/22/2006 12:25:14 AM)
I have been pleased that in the short term that Miller has pulled his punches at Webb and publically aimed them at Allen.
I don't think Miller has a chance of getting the Democratic nod, but he could be useful to Webb when it comes time for the real race.  Have you noticed that somehow Miller has got his face in a few papers lately.  People watching the race still don't consider him much, but my God working the press like Miller does could be useful to Webb....as long as various Webb/Miller cheerleaders don't sour things too much, my hope is that Webb could get Miller to help him after June 13th.

Then again, if Miller wanted to help out in the best possible way, he would keep his guns firing at Allen, then bow out in the next 2-3 weeks, publically endorse Webb, and help Webb in any way he could until November.

Everyone in the Miller/Webb camps would be friendly again, and best of all Allen would soon be looking for a new job in the private sector....in California perhaps or Iowa!!!

I think Miller will have to help if he loses (DanG - 4/22/2006 12:30:32 AM)
If Webb loses this nomination, I think he's done.  I can't imagine him running for Governor or something.  The man should be a Senator.

Thegools, if Harris wants a political career after this, he'll endorse Webb on the 14th and hold a fundraiser for him later.  He'll need to make friends, not alienate people.

Where do we get the code for the advert? (JC - 4/22/2006 8:57:21 AM)
Thanks for the kind words.  Where do we get the code for that great advert?

Think Miller is starting to regret his frontal attack on American IT workers?

straight out of Rove's playbook.  Miller should be above this kind of thing.

Harris Miller is not a good democrat (Info_Tech_Guy - 4/22/2006 12:01:30 PM)
The Modern Patriot has also posted an unflattering picture of Harris Miller and will continue to discuss Miller's positions in a very unflattering manner.

In answer to some of the people expressing concern at the "negative" images of and commentary about Miller, I have this to say:

Harris Miller has attacked union and non-union American white collar workers for more than 10 years. It's a bit silly to accuse American white collar workers affected by Miller's lies, insider dealing and pro-outsourcing business lobbying of "going negative" on the SOB.

What the hell has Harris Miller been doing to American white collar workers? He has been putting hardworking, educated, highly-skilled Americans out of work, destroying employment opportunities, ruining lives, injuring families, helping facilitate offshore outsourcing, and lying through his teeth about the actions of corporations.

Miller knows that new job opportunities for Americans in middle class professions are not being created as a result of offshore outsouricng and the use of imported low wage "skilled workers". He does not care about American middle class workers, American society or the broader national interest -- all of which are adversely affected by Miller's activities. Miller has become rich by helping to put middle class Americans out of work as an "anti-worker hired gun" for corporations.

Miller isn't just a Democratic Party candidate with a different viewpoint; he's waged economic, class war on millions of Americans. Miller is a cancer on the body politic.

I cannot fathom how anyone can make the claim that Miller's record should not be the subject of sharp discussion and debate. I see nothing at all wrong with harsh, biting commentary and the use of imagery.

Frankly, in light of Miller's use of proxies to attack James Webb, the criticism of Miller has exhibited far greater honesty. Miller will not speak candidly about his past; he tries to ignore it and conceal it. This is very relevant. As is evident from the recent Miller fundraiser in California reported on The Modern Patriot, VirginiaBelle, and RK, Miller is the stealth candidate of the offshore outsourcing and worker replacement lobby.

Dealing with the actual complaint (AnonymousIsAWoman - 4/22/2006 5:47:23 PM)
When I first saw the accusations reported by Not Larry Sabato, I remained skeptical. The names of those claiming to have been contacted by the pollsters were not revealed and it seemed more accusation than fact. I'm not a Miller fan, but I think unfounded accusations are counter-productive because they have a nasty habit of blowing up in the accusers face when they are disproven.

But all that changed. I know Terri Hartnet. She's a partisan but she is also fair. I trust her integrity. If she filed the complaint, she must have good reason to know that it's true.

Miller has a history of deceptive practices (Info_Tech_Guy - 4/22/2006 5:56:57 PM)
I don't just disagree with Miller; I think that he's corrupt. Here are a few points I can tick off without a great deal of thought.

He has consistently lied about IT worker shortages to justify importation of low wage replacement workers.

He has denied that imported H-1b/L-1 workers work for less than Americans and that these workers have been used to directly replace Americans.

He has lied about the alleged benefits of outsourcing repeatedly

He has a troubling ties to Diebold and companies involved in lobbying for electronic voting.

Now, Miller is trying to remake himself into a reforming outsider -- a businessman, a far-sighted technology leader and high tech executive. He's running away from his career as an insider lobbyist who has spent an enormous amount of time and effort focused on business "workforce" issues (labor arbitrage).

Of course, all of this contrasts sharply with James Webb's resume.
