Webb Meetup Group Coordinators Needed

OK.. here is my first Blog. Not used to this format, I am more of a forum/email person. But I think I can get the hang of it :)

Anyway, I am helping the Webb campaign get grassroots groups together statewide via Meetup. But I need coordinators.

If you would like to organize a meetup in your area, visit: http://webbforsenate.meetup.com

Then please email me at cdgoin-at-yahoo.com

This is all being done on a strictly volunteer basis, with no official financial or other support of the campaign. That said I hope to be able to use the Meetups similar to the way the Dean campaign did in its hey day, sending out packets of info, having monthly discussion topics for the groups and of course try to get the candidate there to speak at your meetup.

Its all very new and we just got the topic added today. Its also all new to the campaign, so forgive us as we cut our teeth on this endeavor and play it by ear for the next few weeks.

One other thing, there maybe a fee from meetup to be an organizer. I don't know since I am a paid member of MeetUp anyway. So if your not a paid member of MeetUp and there is a fee let me know and if paying the fee is a problem for you.

BTW.. (cdgoin - 4/18/2006 11:18:20 PM)
This means I am looking in ALL Virginia. I know we have some small groups already out there not using Meetup, if someone from those groups could setup them up as a meetup that would be great.

I am hoping to at minimum have a Meetup per congressional district and major metro area.

I will post on this Blog as to how the whole endeavor is going as we move forward towards November..

Can you provide more details ... (Rob - 4/20/2006 10:11:20 AM)
on what parts of the state need coordinators?  Or what the geographic priority list is?

Thanks.. (cdgoin - 4/25/2006 12:09:58 AM)
Basically, right now I have my Meetup in Richmond set up and thats it. Do have a number that have shown interest but have yet to create a Meetup group.

If your not familiar with Meetup basically is a
on-line organizational tool where you can invite
friend, family, strangers, etc.. to come and meetup
with you and your group at a coffee house, restaurant,
etc.. for a little socializing and organizing.

Its a great way to get small groups started and to get
central meetings for informational groups or what have
you. Each meetup pretty much takes a life of its own
based on the people that come, and the amount of
organizing or socializing that they prefer to do.

Some meetups become real GOTV and grassroots
organizations. Some become more informational meetings
to bring new people into learning about the candidate.
Again it all depends on what the organizers want to do
and how the campaign interacts with them. But before
we can get to that point we need create the groups.

IF you or someone you know would like to head up a
local meetup let me know. You can also go to:

http://webbforsenate.meetup.com to start your group.

Meetup can tend to be very viral and a great way to
build a local grassroots operation for a candidate
without the need for expensive campaign offices, and
such. Since Jims' campaign is all about the
grassroots, I felt this was a perfect extension of
what we have all been doing over the last few months.
