Webb Quote of the Day

From his speech at the Confederate War Memorial in 1990:

Americans of African ancestry are the people with whom our history in this country most closely intertwines, whose struggles in an odd but compelling way most resemble our own, and whose rights as full citizens we above all should celebrate and insist upon.

P.S.  I just finished reading "Born Fighting."  Here's my challenge to all you Miller supporters out there: read that book plus "The Nightingale's Song," and then explain to me how you can possibly support a guy who will gain Democrats absolutely nothing (Miller) over a potentially transformative leader (Webb). Also, while you're at it, can you please explain to me how on earth you can back a smear mongerer who was Born Lobbying over a great American who was Born Fighting - for our freedom, for our constitution, and for our country.  Thank you.

Quote of the Day (PM - 4/7/2006 10:42:40 PM)
headline from the illiterate Washington Times:

Assemblye yes end to budget standoff

I don't care if people don't like it... (DanG - 4/7/2006 10:48:00 PM)
I've never really cared much about what people say.  If Miller wins this nomination, I just can't vote for him.  I can only vote for people I respect.  People I believe have honor.

Honor is all we have at the end of the day.  It's what makes us who we are.  It gives us strength.  It gives us courage.  Or it leaves us weak.  It leaves us fearful.  It leaves us afraid of what we may lose.  But in the end, what we lose means nothing.  What we gain means nothing.  All that matters is if at the end of the day when you lie down to sleep, you know in your heart that you were righteous towards your fellow man.  Everyone of them, friend and foe.  You were just to everybody you met that day.

Harris Miller says that anybody who does not support Affirmative Action in the EXACT way he defines it is not welcome in the Democratic Party.

Then I am not welcome.

Then millions upon millions of Americans are not welcome.

That is NOT how you build a majority, and that is NOT how you will take back this country.  Exclusion and elitism will drive away the masses who are lost and turning to the Democratic Party for help.

We must welcome all philosophies and all ideas into this party.  If we don't, then we are destined to remain the minority.  Democrats tend to be so fond of Darwin.  Darwin said that you must "adapt or perish."  Apparently, some members of the Democratic Party would rather do the later.

This is an awesome rant.... (Lowell - 4/7/2006 11:36:04 PM)
so true.  You should expand on it and submit it all over the place. I'm serious, it's excellent!

Maybe I'll expand on it (DanG - 4/8/2006 12:00:32 AM)
For a diarie or something.

Did I just spell diary "diarie"? (DanG - 4/8/2006 12:01:14 AM)
Jeez, I need to get off this computer.  First, it was politicians fusing into one.  Now, it's words.

DanG, I'm with you (DisgustedDem - 4/7/2006 11:57:56 PM)
If Miller wins, I will write in Webb's name.  Some people will say that I am throwing away my vote, but I have to follow my conscience, and after Miller's recent behavior, I can't vote for him.  I look into the eyes of the many people in my area who voted for George Bush in 2004, and they are ashamed of themselves for it now.  They now know they have been manipulated by another sleezy politician playing on their fears and twisting the truth. The writing is on the wall about Miller now, and I won't allow myself to feel ashamed by voting for him.

Mr. Webb, I'm with you all the way.

Smear Monger... I should say so. (DisgustedDem - 4/7/2006 11:38:22 PM)
My user ID is DisgustedDem.  Most of the time my disgust at political figures is aimed at Republicans, especially this recent bunch. Sometimes, though, it's members of my own party who behave in ways that are just plain slimy.  Recent attacks by Harris Miller in his campaign against James Webb fit that bill.

A good many of Miller's supporters are unhappy with Miller's recent smear campaign and have expressed to me that they hope that Miller will shape up.  Yet evidently some of Miller's supporters think his smear campaign is just peachy.  According to them, "you couldn't ask for anything better."

Disgusting display of Democratic giddiness over sleezy and misleading remarks here

With Democrats like Miller and this merry band of his followers in our party we don't need to look across the aisle to find a reason to feel disgusted.  I always like to think that my party is better than this kind of thing, but sometimes it's just not.

Post on Pro-Miller sites too (thegools - 4/8/2006 1:51:51 AM)
You may want to post your thoughts at some of the Pro-Miller sites.....there are some out there.  People who read them should know why you don't want Miller as our candidate. I did.

Miller's Affirmative Action (Rebecca Williams - 4/7/2006 11:40:53 PM)
Sure, Miller believes in affirmative action. If you believe that you believe in the WMDs in Iraq. Miller believes in affirmatively supporting everyone's right to have their job shipped overseas, or replaced here. He's an equal opportunity discriminator. EVERYONE should have the opportunity to be unemployed.

Why can't people see the inconsistency of his "beliefs"? He is nothing more than a scam artist a la George Bush.

Miller's AA (Arturo - 4/8/2006 8:24:35 AM)
Well said, Rebecca.

Thanks Maryscott (Lowell - 4/8/2006 6:49:40 AM)
It's an honor to be in the same "family" as you.  Keep up the great work!

I agree that both "Born Fighting" and "The Nightingale's Song" should be read... (Loudoun County Dem - 4/8/2006 7:32:00 AM)
... to gain a better understanding of Jim Webb. I read "Born Fighting" first but if you haven't read either I would suggest reading "The Nightingale's Song" by Robert Timberg first to get a sense of Webb's personality and the respect he commands in others.

Example from the book referring to Vice Admiral Leon "Bud" Edney, former Commandant of Midshipmen at USNA and later Chief of Naval Personnel:

In his letter to Webb, Edney wrote, "I have come to respect and admire your leadership, integrity, and intellectual capacity more than any other individual I have been privileged to serve under in my 31 years."

"Born Fighting" gave me a more complete understanding of not only where Webb is on various issues (including Affirmative Action and Civil Rights) but his reasoning behind them. It offers an enlightening look into where he sees the United States heading.

I very highly recommend both books.

I agree (Alicia - 4/8/2006 11:53:42 AM)
they should be read by people wanting to learn more about Webb and where he's coming from.
But I seriously doubt Miller or any of his supporters would want to read them.  Miller is happy spreading lies about Webb, because it's worked for him in the past.  (false labor studies, etc.)
I too, will write in Webb's name if Miller wins.  Miller has no integrity, and seems bent on splitting the party, and is no Dem in my opinion...
