Who are we?

We+óGé¼Gäóre Raising Kaine, a grassroots group of ordinary citizens +óGé¼GÇ¥ Democrats, Independents, and moderate Republicans +óGé¼GÇ¥ who are sick and tired of the right-wing extremists and ideologues trying to take control of our country. Instead+óGé¼-ª

We believe in a reformist model that is both Progressive and pragmatic, governed by equal opportunity and mutual responsibility.

We believe in a common good, and protecting our mutual heritage. That+óGé¼Gäós why we are strong environmentalists, like Teddy Roosevelt.

We believe in focusing on what unites us as +óGé¼+ôWe the People,+óGé¼-¥ not what divides us into +óGé¼+ôRed+óGé¼-¥ and +óGé¼+ôBlue.+óGé¼-¥

We believe in standing up for all Americans, not just for the most priviliged and powerful. We believe in the importance of high quality health care for all, not just for those who are wealthy enough to afford it.

We believe in a lean, clean government that provides the best services while imposing the lowest possible burden on those least able to afford it.

We believe that education is the cornerstone of our country, and that leaving no child behind should be reality, not just empty rhetoric.

We believe in moving people from welfare to work. We do NOT believe in corporate welfare.

We believe that the richest in our society should pay more to make our country work. In other words, +óGé¼+ôwith great power comes great responsibility.+óGé¼-¥

We believe that every child in America should have a decent shot at life, and that the doors of opportunity should remain open to all.

We believe in an America where hard work is rewarded.

We believe in bipartisanship and fiscal responsibility, such as we have seen in Virginia under Mark Warner and in the nation as a whole under Bill Clinton.

We believe in many of the ideas and fighting style of great Progressives like Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Harry S. Truman, JFK and RFK.

And finally, we believe in Senator Barack Obama+óGé¼Gäós vision, so eloquently expressed at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004:

there+óGé¼Gäós not a liberal America and a conservative America+óGé¼GÇ¥there+óGé¼Gäós the United States of America. There+óGé¼Gäós not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there+óGé¼Gäós the United States of America. The pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I+óGé¼Gäóve got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don+óGé¼Gäót like federal agents poking around our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and have gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and patriots who supported it. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America.
