Fairfax County Youth Forum

As a member of the Mason District Democratic Committee, I'm working to increase youth participation within Fairfax County in Democratic campaigns and with the Democratic Party in general.  For this reason, I've been meeting for the last couple of weeks with High Schools in My District for the purpose of getting a better idea of what young people (specifically in high school) are interested in doing for the Democrats.

Jump with me won't you...
The results are intersting. Young people are busy, but many of them are strong committed Democrats much like many people on this site here.  The topics of most interest to them are Immigration and the War in Iraq.  It is for that reason, that I've decided to take it upon myself to hold a Democratic Youth Forum, where I will be brining a bunch of High School Democrats together to work on giving kids a place where all the different democrats in our area, can meet to discuss what isses they would like to see us work on.  Where they feel they can help the most, and work on a meet and greet with our candidates for local races, and maybe even Federal races if they could swing it.  I'm also hoping to make this a yearly event, and maybe try to find some local sponsors to work on having a Democratic Scholarship created, to give to a high school student who works hard for the Fairfax County Democratic Party and who shows them self to be a model citizen.  These are just some of my ideas, I will be taking them before my board, and working on them mostly by myself and with cooperation with some of my high school democratic club sponsors.  But I hope much comes of it.  If you're interested in helping feel free to express interest, and I'll discuss more about it later.

A late August, early September date for the forum so that it will hopefully be still pertinent to the 2006 elections too...I'm also trying to get a friend who's serving in Iraq to come speak about it, but we'll see how that goes.

Its vacation weekend, and although politics is fun, I have to take a vacation from it too, or else I get too worked up...

But this is in the planning stages, I'll get in contact with ya soon
