"Allen Should Resign Senate Seat First"

From today's Richmond Times-Dispatch, here's an interesting letter to the editor.  The letter comes at a time when Allen is busy running around Iowa and explaining how - despite the fact that he's a leader in the party that controls Congress - he has nothing, NUH-THINK! - to do with the insane budget deficits and out-of-control spending we're seeing.  Yeah, that's really convincing, George.  Almost as convincing as your Southern California Cowboy routine.  What a joke.

Editor, Times-Dispatch: When Senator John Kerry ran for President, I felt that if he wanted to be President, he should have resigned his Senate seat. I feel the same way about Senator George Allen if he wants to run for President, he should resign his seat, as should Hillary Clinton, should she decide to run for President.

Virginians and all Americans deserve full-time representation from their elected officials, and if you're running for President, it is impossible to fulfill your duties as a U.S. Senator. This is not a Democratic or Republican issue -- it's about accountability to the American taxpayer.

In my world, I can't tell my boss that I want to look full-time for a new job (and protect my current job). It just doesn't work that way. We as citizens pay our elected officials through our taxes, and I expect them to do their job. If they want to run for President, good luck, but they should resign their offices. We deserve better than part-time representation.

Tracy Jones.

Now here's a question for the day: "Why was George Allen in Cedar Falls, Iowa, rather than Falls Church, Va.?"  Answer?  Because he cares more about being President than about being Senator from Virginia, obviously.  Which is exactly why we need James Webb as our next Senator, not George Allen.
