What: Petition drive for James Webb for U.S. Senate

Where: The corner of 17th Street and E. Main Street in Richmond, Virginia

When: March 18, 2006 from 11:45 AM until 6:00 PM

We are sponsoring a petition drive to collect signatures to get James Webb on the ballot for the Democratic Party's primary election to select a candidate for U.S. Senate.

This Saturday, March 18th, there will be a major festival event in Richmond's Shockoe Bottom: "Shamrock the Block."  This event will be held in the Farmer's Market at 17th and Main.  We will be across the street from the festival collecting signatures.  We believe that the event will cause significant additional foot traffic we can exploit to get many of the signatures we need. If enough volunteers come forward, we will also send pairs of "roamers" out to mix with the crowd and collect even more signatures.

I will be on site from approximately 11:30 AM until we shut down for the day at about 6:00 PM.  We are looking for volunteers to work one of two shifts. The first shift will run from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 PM, the second from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM.  You can come, collect signatures and then enjoy the festival!

I will bring a couple of director's chairs, petition forms, some literature, and decorations for the table.  Here's the thing though: we still need a small folding table!  If you have a card table you can loan us for this event, please let me know!

For more information you can e-mail me!

[UPDATE:  Another excellent opportunity for gathering petition signatures for Jim Webb this weekend will be the First Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade & Block Festival in Fredericksburg.  The event takes place along Caroline Street in downtown Fredericksburg, starting at 1 p.m on Sunday. James Webb will be the grand marshal, and there will also be pipers, drummers and dancers from the University of Mary Washington Eagle Pipe Band.  Also, "Today" show Superstar Anthony Campbell will be at the celebration.]
