Today's Augusta Free Press quotes Republican gubernatorial candidate George Fitch trashing Jerry Kilgore's 's transportation plans "nothing more than a rush to raise taxes."  Fitch adds that Kilgore "has made passing the buck into a new art form."

In the same article, "independent Republican" candidate Russ Potts is even more blistering in his criticism,  calling Kilgore's proposed regional transportation authorities "ludicrous."  Potts continues, "The fact of the matter is, you either need to lead, follow or get the hell out of the way," and pointedly asks, "Do we really want to become like California where they put everything to referendum? Look at the mess that they're in out there."

So there we have it:  Jerry Kilgore's plans for our state are "ludicrous" and a "rush to raise taxes," according to his two major Republican rivals.  Even more ominously, Kilgore's plans could lead Virginia into the same ditch where California currently finds itself if it heads to the "popular referendum" model of state government.  Thanks, but no thanks, Mr. Kilgore.  Frankly, we'd rather ditch YOU, not our AAA bond ratings and "best managed state in the country" awards.
