Bad for Goode?

After Republican Randall "Duke" Cunningham resigned in disgrace for taking a $1 million bribe from MZM contractor Mitchell Wade, Republicans lined up to take his Congressional seat.  What they didn't count on was Democrat Francine Busby .

Francine just reached the $1 million fundraising mark for the April 11th Special Election, with several Republican challengers primed to cancel out each other's votes.

As we have reported in earlier articles, Wade also pled guilty to providing $46,000 in allegedly illegal campaign contributions to Congressmen Virgil Goode (VA-5), and $32,000 in allegedly illegal campaign contributions to Katherine Harris (FL-13).

The message on Francine Busby's website is a strong one, and should apply to all elections in 2006.

"Our government in Washington is broken.
"The scandals of Duke Cunningham have shown all of us what corruption in Washington looks like: close relationships between government contractors and members of Congress, lobbyists writing legislation, backroom and anonymous budget deals and a general disregard for spending taxpayer money honestly.
I am running to change all that. For too long, Washington politicians from both parties have told us that the status quo culture of corruption is as good as it gets. But now, we have a chance to tell Washington that we don't want more of the same Duke Cunningham style of pay-to-play politics.
This election is about so much more than Democrats versus Republicans, it is about changing the way Washington works versus more of the same. I hope you will join my campaign to restore honesty and integrity to Congress."

Sound familiar?  These are the same points being made by Congressional candidates in Virginia like Andrew Hurst and Al Weed.

In California, not only do we have a chance to take an open seat that was held by a Republican, getting us one closer to taking back the house, we also have a chance to start cleaning up Congress.  I encourage all of you to see what you can do to help the Busby campaign, or at least to watch this campaign very closely.  A victory for Busby would send a message to Virgil Goode that corrupt politics have consequences.  MZM and other scandals may swing elections for the Democratic Party.  Ask the people in the Gulf Coast if they feel any different about President Bush after being stranded for days without food or water while the President was making stump speeches and ignoring the mayhem.

All I can say is good luck Francine, we hope you emerge victorious!
