Although I live in Arlington, I don't write about it much.  Mainly, that's because the focus of this blog is state and national, not local, politics.  However, once in a while there's an Arlington-related story that deserves some airplay.  In this case, it turns out that several Arlingtonians - Aneesh Chopra, Larry Roberts, Alfonso Lopez, and Nick Kessler - have all been named to posts in the Tim Kaine administration.  Chopra has been named as Secretary of Technology, Roberts as counselor to the Governor, Lopez as director of the Virginia Liaison Office in Washington, and Kessler as deputy commissioner of the Virginia Employment Commission.  Congratulations to all four Arlingtonians!

Now, for the dramatic part of the story.  According to the Arlington County Democratic News, Kessler "had a nasty welcome to Richmond."  Here's what happened:

[Nick Kessler] was approaching his parked car when two men came up with a pistol,  ordered him to get in and to let them into the car. Nick did as ordered. But while the man with the gun was maneuvering himself into the car, Nick made a rapid exit. One of the men pursued Nick?but not for long as Nick made for a group of construction workers. Nick is intact. And so is his car. Nick thinks the stick shift stymied the would-be carjackers who fled wheelless.

Wow, that's cool thinking on Nick's part.  Perhaps the Kaine-Kilgore contest was good combat training for situations like this one?  Ha.  Anyway, I'm glad to hear that Nick is alright.  Now, the REALLY dangerous part begins - navigating the dangerous back alleys of political Richmond.  Forget carjacking, now THAT is truly terrifying!
