More on Virgil's MZM connection

While Rep. Virgil Goode is not implicated in any illegality, the United States Attorney's press release doesn't exactly paint a pretty picture for him either:

After Wade made the campaign contributions, Wade asked that one of the Representatives and his staff request appropriations funding for an MZM facility. The Representative's staff later confirmed to Wade that an appropriations bill would include $9 million for the facility.

The Representative here is Goode, and the facility is the Foreign Supplier Assessment Center in Martinsville.  Josh Marshall connects the dots:

Wade asked that Goode request appropriations funding for an MZM facility in Goode's district soon after he'd just delivered most of the $46K. This was at some unspecified time "in the spring" - the contributions were mostly made in March of 2005, so it can't have been long. By June 2005, "Representative A [Goode] confirmed to Wade that the appropriations bill would include $9M for the facility and a related program." Here's a picture of Goode and Wade at the facility's opening.

So, Mitch delivers a bag full of cash to Virgil in March 2005.  Three months later, Wade comes back asking for taxpayer money to pay for his new facility and programs.  Virgil delivers, with even more incentives for MZM to make sure the pork was steered into his district

It's safe to conclude that Rep. Goode has a problem on his hands.
