Metro Funding Revived

Late word from Richmond...Senate Bill 267 (sales tax for metro funding) has been revived in the House of Delegates Transportation Committee. Previously the bill had been rejected at the subcommittee level, but today Harry Parrish exercised his prerogative as committee chair to bring it back to review before the full committee. Ironically, it was Parrish who helped vote the bill into rejection at the subcommittee level.  The bill is now in the docket for the next committee meeting.

The following is a contact list for Republicans sitting on the House of Delegates Transportation Committee.  Please contact your delegates if they fall on this list.  Constituents should pay particular attention to Harry J. Parrish and L. Scott Lingamfelter, who voted against this bill in subcommittee, despite the fact that the results would hurt residents of their districts.

If you call, tell your delegate that sustained Metro funding is not a new tax, but a continuing financial obligation needing ongoing support--or the result will be taking more from taxpayers pockets in the long run.  When you do call (or write), it's also a great time to request  support for a transportation plan that delivers needed services--without  robbing education, public safety, health, natural resources and economic development programs.

As they say, it ain't over 'til it's over I guess.  I wonder how many arms Tom Davis is twisting behind the scenes, or if this has nothing to do with him?  He's gotta be pissed...
