Still the Tobacco State

Virginia may be changing, but it's still the #3 tobacco state  in the  country (and worldwide headquarters for Philip Morris).  Which is probably why "a House of Delegates subcommittee unanimously rejected a bill [yesterday] that had won Senate approval despite the state's long-standing ties to the tobacco industry."  It's unfortunate, given the hazards of second-hand smoke.  As Sen. J. Bradford Bell II said, "The bottom line is that we're not talking about a smoker's right to smoke indoors...We're talking about my right not to breath in 4,000 chemicals and 60 known carcinogens that are associated with secondhand smoke."

Better luck next year?
