So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

that's seems like an appropriate title for my final posting here as RK approaches its end.  I thank Douglas Adams for the title.  While RK may not have been the guide to the Milky Way, for this political hitchhiker it has been a wonderful guide to the galaxy of Virginia politics and government.

I want to first thank Josh for inviting me to post here, after I met him and Lee Diamond even before the two of them and Lowell first met with Jim Webb.  I want to thank Lowell for giving me various keys to the site, including posting on the front page, with the occasional suggestion that I cross-post things I had written at the great orange satan, aka Daily Kos.

I am proud to have been a part of this site, even if I joined after its initial success in helping elect the Governor whose name it originally carried.  Through this site I got to know, at first electronically and then occasionally in person, people all over the Old Dominion.  It encouraged my participation in Virginia politics outside the bounds of my home of Arlington County. Had I not participated here, I would never have applied to Sorensen Institute's Political Leaders Program, participation in which has greatly broadened my knowledge and understanding of Virginia and its people.

I want to thank not only those I have already named, but those who commented upon what I have written, even if merely to criticize.  I fully believe in dialog, which is why I hand around to read comments, and usually to engage in conversation.  I learn from those of other perspectives, even on the rare occasion when the site has been invaded with trollish behavior (I comment on the behavior, not the person making it).

I also want to thank thoe who took the time to craft diaries, or to crosspost from elsewhere.  We all benefit from such sharing.

And to those who just read, thanks for taking the time to share in that way with those of us who did write.  We have all been part of a community.

It has been . .  fun?  educational?  productive? - I am not quite sure as to how I should characterize it.  And even as I am already particiating in Blue Commonwealth, I admit I will miss this site.

So, let me reiterate what I already said:

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

see you elsewhere in the electronic galaxy

and as always

Peace.

My dad's Christmas present to himself was the original BBC radio broadcast of Hitchhiker's Guide, which just now has come out on cd, and is not even released in America - he had to order it from the UK.  Really good stuff.  Though not necessarily as useful as RK.  I for one share your sentiments.
