Jeff Price-Introduction to the Blogosphere

I suppose there is no time like the present to introduce myself to the blogosphere.
My name is Jeff Price, and I'm running for the 24th District seat in the House of Delegates.  This district encompasses the majority of Amherst County, all of Rockbridge County, four precincts in Southern Augusta County, and the cities of Buena Vista and Lexington.
We are living in serious times and it is going to take people dedicated to rolling up their sleeves and making some tough decisions on how Virginia moves forward.  This is what I hope to bring to the table.
I'm not a politician.  I work in our small family business, Virginia Lime Works, which has become a leader in the fields of historic preservation and ecologically friendly building construction.  We have a reputation worldwide for advocating the promotion of working class craftspeople and the continued education and sustainability of traditional trades.  I have walked down the streets with homeowners whose lives where forever changed when an EF-5 tornado struck Greensburg Kansas.  I have sat with 3rd generation New Orleans plasterers whose homes were destroyed by Katrina and dreams were shattered by the ineptitude of the government in the aftermath.  I have had dinner in the South of France with an older French couple who came to tears describing their joy when their liberty was restored by American Servicemen in 1945. But at the end of the day, I'm just a working guy whose father is a bricklayer and grew up on the family farm. For over 150 years my family has been involved in the history and rural heritage of Amherst County.  My wife teaches elementary special education for Amherst County Public Schools and we have two children, Olivia & Jackson.

I'll be perfectly honest; we've got an uphill fight to win in the 24th.  But as we saw in 2008, our party is one of working hard and letting voters know that there is a better brighter future ahead of us.  This message, one of hope, not fear ensured our victories in the 2nd and 5th where many considered us the underdog. We are the party that doesn't look backwards for solutions, but forward to practical answers to the tough questions Virginians are asking.  We think that maybe Virginia can be the leader in fighting climate change and look at innovative technologies that ensure that we have a planet to leave our children and grandchildren.  We say that maybe we should stop unfunded mandates that leave our local governments strapped for cash, and our schools underfunded and underappreciated.  We feel that the public has an interest and a right in knowing how their public officials vote and has the responsibility to hold them accountable. We know that wise investments in our roads and infrastructure today will lead to economic prosperity.  We see with eyes that are blind to discrimination and fight to uphold that Jeffersonian ideal that all men (and women) are created equal and that is regardless of your race, creed, color, or who you choose to share your life with.

The Virginia of today is a far cry of the Virginia of the late 1990's.  We are focused and motivated to make sure that the generation of tomorrow isn't forced to clean up the messes of the generation of today.  But to advance that progressive agenda, we must get to work NOW, and we must ensure that we gain those vital seats in the House of Delegates and elect a Democratic Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General.

It doesn't matter if you reside in the 24th or not.  Together we can make sure that we put Virginia back on the right track, by eliminating the road block that has been put up in the legislature.

Feel free to visit my website at www.jeffprice.us to learn more about me, my views, and my ideas.  I welcome any input you might have, and can send your thoughts on putting Virginia back on the right tract at letstalk@jeffprice.us, and of course (hint hint), you can always contribute via ActBlue.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas and look forward to the exciting year that we have facing us.

With kindest regards,

Jeff
