Arlington Dems Celebrate Volunteers

Arlington may have the strongest committee structure and the best organized volunteers in Virginia.  The county delivered a margin of nearly 50,000 votes for Barack Obama.  That's a 72% landslide for Obama, and Arlington Democrats know how to celebrate.
"Never underestimate the value of knocking on one more door, or making one more phone call," said Voncille Trotter Hines, the party's outreach coordinator, to a crowd of about 250 revelers, many enjoying a sugar buzz courtesy of long tables of desserts at the party.

The celebration honored the work of the Democrats' Joint Campaign, which each year coordinates local political efforts in a single thrust. This year's co-chairmen of the campaign were Jody Olson, Madi Green and County Board member Jay Fisette.

"It's always fun - just not always this much fun," Fisette said of the campaign. "Look at what we have accomplished."

Going forward Arlington has about 30,000 new voters to draw upon to keep driving Virginia blue.

Absolutely amazing (TheGreenMiles - 12/5/2008 1:46:37 PM)
What a fantastic night to be a Democrat. Didn't anyone tell these people they won and the media says they'll now be complacent? What are they doing coming out on a cold Wednesday night?

If Arlington Democrats can keep these volunteers engaged and activated, they'll continue to provide a strong electoral firewall to all Democrats running statewide. Congrats to Jody, Madi, Jay, Peter Rousselot and all the 250 volunteers on their great work!
