Elections Are NOT Over

On Wednesday, November 19th the Steering Committee of the House Democratic Caucus is expected to recommend to the full Caucus who should be Committee Chairs in the next Congress. Probably, the full Democratic Caucus will vote on Thursday November 20th.

A lot has been written at RK about clean energy, climate change and so on. An amazing public servant, Rep. Henry Waxman from California, is challenging Rep. John Dingell from Michigan for Chair of the House Energy And Commerce Committee.

I don't think it is necessary to remind RK readers why it is so important to see fresh leadership at the House Committee that will consider the energy (and environmentally related) legislation critical to our future.

On November 4th, we addressed partisan gridlock. Now, it is time to shake up the very structure of Washington's power centers and re-align our institutions in favor of the public and the planet.

Practically speaking, the auto industry must  change significantly if it is going to survive.  Any bailout package will have to include an industry commitment to make the necessary changes.  Clearly, those changes can be achieved most effectively with Congressional leadership that sees beyond the interests of the auto industry.  Mr. Dingell is a good man, but he has protected the auto industry for a long time.  The time for big change has come.

Henry Waxman will add a significant piece to the puzzle of how we get Real Change out of Washington. Add the dynamic figure of Henry Waxman to the dynamic figure of Barack Obama and you see boulders meeting their match.

HENRY WAXMAN FOR CHAIR OF THE HOUSE ENERGY AND COMMERCE COMMITTEE.  CALL YOUR DEMOCRATIC MEMBER OF CONGRESS NOW.  ALL INCOMING DEMOCRATS WILL VOTE. SELECTION BEGINS ON WEDNESDAY.

PS  Aren't you tired of hearing about the rising incidence of childhood asthma?  Lets move forward on the cluster of related issues.  We've had enough of Big Oil & Big Coal & Hummers.
