I saw that- Periello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (thegools - 11/4/2008 10:31:32 PM)
Amazing!!

Where do you go to election results as they come in? (thegools - 11/4/2008 10:41:12 PM)
State board of elections?

CNN calls it for Goode? Why no call for Obama in VA? (Dan - 11/4/2008 11:03:18 PM)
Why did CNN call this for Goode?  Talk about an early call.  With only NOVA the bulk of the remaining votes, it looks like an easy Obama victory.  He just pulled ahead!  Call it CNN!  And reverse your call for Virgil Goode!

Outstanding counties in VA-05 are rough (faithfull - 11/4/2008 11:22:13 PM)
Charlotte, Bedford, Campbell County will go heavily for Goode. We still have part of Danville which will come for Tom.

I just looked through the outstanding votes for Perriello (thegools - 11/4/2008 11:23:28 PM)
most of the outstanding votes, and there aren't many are from districts that are favoring Goode.

My guess is that it ill be a sqeeker, but that Goode ill win by a very thin hair.  Let's hope not.

CNN called off their call for Goode! (Dan - 11/4/2008 11:49:39 PM)
Now Goode and Perriello is too close to call!

What about Nye? (thegools - 11/4/2008 11:25:58 PM)
He is ahead but most of VA Beach hasn't reported.

What do you think that means? (faithfull - 11/4/2008 11:26:35 PM)
Im not familiar with that part of the state.

I do not know (thegools - 11/4/2008 11:40:41 PM)
anyone else?

The take on Perriello, as of 11-- I hope I'm wrong (aznew - 11/5/2008 12:12:58 AM)
This will be as close as close can be.

By my calculations, Tom will lead by about 500 votes after Charlotte County's two missing precincts report.

After that, the remaining "precincts" are absentee/provisional votes in Bedford co., Campbell Co., Fluvanna Co., Franklin Co. (Virgil's home) and Danville City.

Danville should favor Tom. Fluvanna is coming in in his favor, but in 2006 it went for Goode, so I'm not sure what it says about absentees.

The rest are Goode counties.

Add it all up, and basically it will be within 100 votes for either candidate.

Then there is the missing precinct from Lunenberg County, which will likely favor Goode, sad to say.

But this may not be over for quite a while.

CNN, however, calls it for Tom (aznew - 11/5/2008 12:22:22 AM)
Perriello issues press release:

Perriello: "We're Confident There Will Be a Change of Leadership in the 5th"

November 4, 2008--Ivy, VA--Tom Perriello has issued this statement in response to CNN just calling the race in Perriello's favor:

"We are confident that when all the votes are counted, we will maintain our lead and there will be a change in leadership in the 5th district. People have responded to our message of economic solutions and reviving a culture of service in Washington. I am so grateful for everyone who made this historic campaign possible and for all the fifth district voters who have put their trust in me."

99% IN (cdgoin - 11/5/2008 12:42:42 AM)
Perriello 155,706 50%

Goode (Incumbent) 153,863 50%

Not enough votes in that 1% to change the result I would think.. !!

Charles

I don't know where they are getting their numbers (faithfull - 11/5/2008 12:50:28 AM)
Thats not what the State BOE is saying...

Tom Perriello 154,281
Virgil H. Goode, Jr. 154,105

With 98.69% in

Thank you RaisingKaine (snolan - 11/5/2008 9:02:09 AM)
So Virginia's contribution:

11 EVs for Obama
+1 Democratic Senator
+3 Democratic congressmen

I wish we could have bumped off Wolf as well, but I can live with the results we have and the blowout turnout numbers.

It is the culmination of many years of hard work, mostly by people reading this community website and coordinating their efforts.

Now we need to stay engaged and keep people involved in democracy.
