How badly damaged is the GOP brand in The Old Dominion?

Over the last few weeks I've noticed some consistancy in GOP ads.  They are not mentioning the word Republican.  Just a little while ago, I saw another ad from ol' Virgil about that New York Lawyer Tom Perriello.  At the end, it says Virgil Goode, INDEPENDENT voice for Virginia.  Did Virgil forget that he's not an Independent anymore, but a Republican?  I've even noticed that Bob Goodlatte doesn't even use the GOP tag.  Are these the same 5th and 6th Congressional Districts where the GOP brand is as solid as a Boxley Rock Quary?  Is the GOP brand so damaged that dyed-in-the-wool Republicans are afraid to put GOP next to their names on in their TV ads, campaign signs, or campaign literature?  Has anyone else noticed this or am I the only one?

Missing GOP Labels (demdiva - 11/2/2008 8:49:10 PM)
Frank Wolf's ads are completely missing the GOP label -- he's claiming he's an "independent" to!

Eric Cantor is also "Independent."   What a surprise!
