Obama Goes for the Jugular

At certain points during the primaries and again when McCain had his brief September bump in the polls, we heard some Democratic strategists accuse Barack Obama of weakness for not being more aggressive and attacking.

Well, today the Obama delivered a message to John McCain - have some:

On a conference call with reporters just now, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said that the campaign is going up on the air in the final stretch in three states: Georgia, North Dakota, and ... McCain's home state of Arizona.

Plouffe said that yesterday's "rear view mirror" ad attacking McSame would go up in Georgia and North Dakota, and the positive closing spot, which features the endorsements of Warren Buffett and Colin Powell, would go up in Arizona.

Does Obama have a shot in Arizona? Probably not. Is it a stomach punch for the McCain campaign to have Obama on the air in his backyard? Absolutely. And this gives Obama the lead in yet another news cycle at a time when there are few cycles left to own before Election Day. Maybe McCain will respond with another devastating attack accusing Obama of being bipartisan.

My wifes sister lives in the phoenix area.
She knows the state will go for Mccain, but it made her whole year to hear that Obama is advertising in AZ!!!

That takes cojones... (Dave N. - 11/1/2008 1:47:48 PM)
..to take it so blatantly at McCain.

I love it!

It also takes $$$$$ (Lowell - 11/1/2008 1:58:10 PM)
which, thanks to millions of donors - many online, most small - Obama has in abundance.  Talk about the "Netroots Rising!" :)

I actually think Obama has a good shot. (Tiderion - 10/31/2008 11:21:12 PM)
The reason being the final push is a big coup to McCain's campaign if he doesn't respond. If he does, the resources he needs in other states will be wasted and ensures an Obama win. There is not a lack of pro-Democratic demographics in Arizona and they have a fine Democratic Governor who is praised more than McCain. The pressure might be enough to crack the state in the final moments.
