We're in "now or never" territory, folks.  If you were planning on doing some volunteering or voting early or emailing friends and family, no more procrastinating.  For the home stretch, I'll post a daily open thread where you all can discuss ideas and suggestions for last-week action, with some pointers from me as well.  As always, the "Obama Central" graphic here and on the side bar links to Obama's Virginia volunteer page.

SIX DAYS LEFT OF IN-PERSON ABSENTEE VOTING.  Time to plan your day to vote, if you haven't already, and convince your friends and family to vote this week as well.  More in yesterday's diary, and also check out Obama's Vote Early in Virginia page that has even more useful info. (Some localities might not be open Saturday and have only 5 days left -- check with your local registrars office on times).

Let's start the work week with probably the most important work link for the Obama compaign: GOTV volunteering! Click here to sign up for the final push of GOTV, especially starting this weekend!  Or you could always just pop by any of Obama's Virginia offices list here and say "PUT ME TO WORK!"

And, of course, feel free to forward that link -- which has a great strategy video from the campaign highlighting the importance of Virginia -- to anyone who needs a little push to work on the last week before election day.

Okay, the open thread is open for all volunteering and voting related discussion!  The first open thread linked on the flip....
9 DAYS LEFT ... (take food to the local offices)

Virginia Lawyers Needed for Nov. 5 Canvass (anitab - 10/27/2008 11:48:43 AM)
Message from Virginia Promote the Vote:

With Election Day soon upon us, we now need Attorneys and other professionals who are Virginia residents to help us monitor each of the Commonwealth's City and County "Canvass" operation beginning November 5th.  The Canvass is where the provisional ballots are counted and results are tabulated.  Most of the Canvass operations will only take a few hours, but it is of the utmost importance that we have a representative there and that representative needs to be an eligible voter in the locality.

Please commit to being our representative on November 5th by sending an email to: VACanvass@Gmail.com. Thanks so much for your time, we look forward to hearing from you.

I volunteered for this group before and I can't say enuf good things about them (Andrea Chamblee - 10/27/2008 2:52:27 PM)
In a year where states will be won or lost based on how many newly registered voters are turned away, provisional ballots are key. If 2000 was the year voters were turned away in FLA and 2004 was the year they were turned away in Ohio, this may be the year they are turned away in PA and VA.  Not every Republican is afraid of a full count, but the new voters most likely to be turned away are here for the Dems. Discouraging them this year will also have an impact on whether they vote again every two years. Help make sure every vote is counted!
