9 DAYS LEFT OPEN THREAD: Action and voting diary

We're in "now or never" territory, folks.  If you were planning on doing some volunteering or voting early or emailing friends and family, no more procrastinating.  For the home stretch, I'll post a daily open thread where you all can discuss ideas and suggestions for last-week action or just tell us what you're doing this last week.  As always, the "Obama Central" graphic here and on the side bar links to Obama's Virginia volunteer page.

First off, we've got six days of in-person absentee voting left - Monday up through Saturday.  Today is the day to look over your contacts list for the people you want to encourage to vote before election day.  Think of those that might be too busy on Nov. 4th, and ask them to vote this week.  Supply them with the information they need too -- tell them why they're eligible, plus where and when to vote. Or, better yet, take 'em to their in-person absentee voting location!

I'll let Michelle Obama explain why voting now is critical....

Don't wait until Election Day when it's snowing. Don't wait until Election Day when you might be sick. Don't wait until Election Day when your tire might be flat. You might not have gas then. Vote now.

Right - if you have time (and are eligible) to bank your vote now, do it.  If you can get others to bank their votes now, do it.  No matter how much someone supports Obama, it doesn't mean a thing until that vote is case.  Plus, the shorter the lines on election day, the fewer people will be deterred by long lines on election day.

So, start getting persuasive.  Anyone who might commute for 11 hours on Tuesday can vote now, as can those with a host other reasons.  Tell your eligible friends and family to save time, decrease the lines, and vote tomorrow through Saturday!

Now, on to volunteering.  Today, I'll link to this great diary by JC Wilmore on Kos with ideas about food to drop off at Obama's campaign offices.  Those 24-7 volunteers need fuel!  He also includes a list of those campaign offices addresses (with a map link).  Of course, you could use that list of offices to find one to volunteer at too.

Okay, let's fill up this open thread with volunteer and early voting chatter!

Wish I could be there... (Keith in Arlington - 10/26/2008 2:10:32 PM)
...like I was in February, but I'm now overseas working for Uncle Sam.  But I've voted already, as have most of the Virginians at my post (and there are a fair number).  And I am so very proud of the Commonwealth this election season; keep it up down the home stretch.

Virginia Lawyers Needed for Nov. 5 Canvass (anitab - 10/27/2008 11:47:05 AM)
Here is a message from Promote the Vote:

With Election Day soon upon us, we now need Attorneys and other professionals who are Virginia residents to help us monitor each of the Commonwealth's City and County "Canvass" operation beginning November 5th.  The Canvass is where the provisional ballots are counted and results are tabulated.  Most of the Canvass operations will only take a few hours, but it is of the utmost importance that we have a representative there and that representative needs to be an eligible voter in the locality.

Please commit to being our representative on November 5th by sending an email to: VACanvass@Gmail.com. Thanks so much for your time, we look forward to hearing from you.
