Wes Clark in Roanoke

As though talking with Ethel and Max Kennedy at Chairman Cranwell's home yesterday (Wednesday) morning wasn't exciting enough for this old Democrat, the afternoon visit with General Wes Clark certainly was the cherry on top.

Wes Clark arrived at the Jefferson Center's rehearsal hall a little late, but he was quite well received by approximately 75 patient, appreciative and cheering supporters of him and the Obama/Biden ticket.

Clark's knowledge of this year's important campaign issues and relevant subject matter and his clear, confident, smooth method of delivery continues to be impressive and virtually unequaled by most others of his (my) generation.

After Clark's formal speech in which he explained why Barack Obama was our best hope for change in America, he took time to have photos made with his many fans and to autograph various items for them.

I enjoyed a few moments of conversation with General Clark, explaining to him that I had been an adamant supporter of his 2004 presidential bid and had hoped that he would run again last year.

I also made sure that Wes Clark understood his importance to me and to so many others who consider him to be such a solid leader and one of our best possible presidential candidates.

I went on to explain to Clark that when he endorsed Jim Webb for the U. S. Senate in late March of 2006, that was the deciding event that brought me to that same conclusion.

Finally, I implored Wes Clark to be a part of the Obama administration if asked, and he indicated that he probably would not be able to refuse such a request from President Obama.

Yes, Wednesday, October 22 was a remarkable day in Roanoke, and Tuesday, November 4 will be a historical day in Virginia and in the United States of America.

Thanks!

Steve
