New Pro-McCain Robo Call Hits Virginia and Pennsylvania

A new robo-call has hit Virginia and intruded into our homes.  The caller is the recorded voice of Republican and former Director of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge.  The call comes from 866-520-5769. In the recording, Ridge touts his Homeland Security cred.  Then, trying to fan fear, he injects the recent Biden remark that Obama will be tested. Then he moves to the outrageous and ridiculous.  He said Barack Obama  "will give civil rights to terrorists."

So much for Ridge being one of the good (Republican) guys.  And "moderate?"  I don't think so.

There's not much out there about this yet, But here's what Huffington Post reports about this call.
The newest robocall from the McCain campaign and the RNC is out and it returns to the incendiary

"terrorism" theme of the first William Ayers call. According to two recipients, the new call is narrated by former Pennsylvania governor Tom Ridge, and suggests Obama supports negotiating and "extend[ing] civil rights" to terrorists. It also uses the now-politically-controversial quote from Joseph Biden saying that a President Obama would be tested during his first months in office.  So far, no recording of the call has surfaced. One reader writes that it says: "the Liberals will want to give civil rights to terrorists." Another reader says the call's script includes the line "Obama will want to talk to terrorists."

Here's the link.  Voters in Missouri and Wisconsin have also reportedly received this call.  If you receive this call, please try to record it.  [I don't have recording capability on my phone.] And please post the audio!  Thanks!

Thanks for the word on the calls (Great Blue - 10/23/2008 8:09:12 PM)
We haven't heard of the Ridge call in the Hampton Roads area--yet!

Tom Ridge is a Pennsylvanian (Teddy - 10/23/2008 9:33:42 PM)
So it will probably be used intensively in that state, especially when you remember that McCaine has apparently given up on Colorado and is focusing resources in Pennsylvania....?

On a lighter note, I got a robocall from Michelle Obama urging me to volunteer for Barack, and vote.

I got the call this afternoon here in Fairfax.... (Used2Bneutral - 10/23/2008 11:27:40 PM)
it came in on a home number late afternoon that would have looked like an independent or a non-primary voting Democrat.... on my own raging crazy fanatical Democrat line I didn't get a call.... Hmm I must be beyond hope by their measure.... and they're right !!!  :)

I got mine at 4:40 PM yesterday in Leesburg (Dave N. - 10/24/2008 8:00:18 AM)
Once I heard the phrase "Governor Tom Ridge, former Secretary of Homeland Security", I hung up.

Silly me, I should be taping this pablum.

I got the Ridge robo call (JohnBruhns - 10/24/2008 12:29:35 AM)
It obviously had no impact on me, but I am concerned how many of my fellow Pennsylvanians it will impact.  This state is an unpredictable neck & neck toss up.

Either the (GOP and McCain) Are (KathyinBlacksburg - 10/24/2008 7:35:52 AM)
desperate (they are) or they are so bold as to believe that even hard-core Dems will wither under their pitiful scare America routine.  But Bush-Cheney milked that for 8 years and now, I think, most people know better.

Still, 2006 marked the first time we have ever gotten GOP calls.  This year marks a record.  I have never voted for a Republican for president.  Never will.  But they keep calling.I've served previously on my country Democratic committee and its exec board.  So, its mistifying why I am on the list.

But even more mystifying is what may be flaws in our own lists.  I keep getting that survey call from the Campaign for Change.  Within 24 hours I got 2 from out of state Dems (one from IL and one from MD) asking if I've decided whom I will vote for.  (Ya think?) Then, Wed I got four calls from the Blacksburg HQ.  Three of those were the survey calls. And that worries me.  They keep wasting their time calling me to the point of disruption.  I worry that they are going to really tick off undecideds if they call them as much as they have me. Clearly, their lists aren't accurate and the pressure point must be data entry.  And so I will work on that this week.  I have done some data entry at HQ already.  But our last-minute GOTV depends on the best records possible.  And future party building depends on it too.

A campaign ad I'd like to see in primetime (LoudounLad - 10/24/2008 10:43:55 AM)

It ought to work wonders in North Carolina.
